FSUIPC cannot be used with this version

Newbie here and it looks like I'm messed up.I have FS 2004 and am trying to use it to practice IFR approaches for my Cirrus SR20. I have the 6 pack with Arnav MFD and Century HSI. I downloaded from the cirruspilots.org site two different SR20 simulators as addins. The first one (flightsim6pack.zip) worked ok but was not ideal. The second one (msfs2002sr20b.zip) was reported to be better so I tried it. This sim was written for 2002, but the help file said it would work for 2004 and it did. The help file also referred to Avsim as a source for a good Garmin 430. The sim seemed to download and install ok except the Arnav MFD was not there as it was supposed to be. I decided that was not important if I could get a good Garmin 430 sim to put in. I came Avsim and searched for "garmin 430". I got 3 hits. #2 (fsgarmin43020.zip) looked the most promising as it was not tied to any particular aircraft. It was labeled as being for FS2002, but I downloaded and installed it anyway. (after all the aircraft sim was written for 2002 and it worked)After loading, FS 2004 would no longer start. I get a message FSUIPC cannot be used with this version. Realizing I was screwed, I uninstalled and reinstalled FS 2004. Same error message on start up.Now I am beyond my depth. Any assistance appreciated.Gaynor Blake

Only thing pops to mind is the fs9.0 to fs9.1 patch - did you install that?regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

Don't think I had it, and for sure don't have it now after the fresh install. I'll try that. Thanks!Gaynor

Hi,Well what comes to my mind is that either the msfs2002sr20b.zip or fsgarmin43020.zip for FS2002 contains FSUIPC made for FS2002, which you installed into FS2004. Try going into FS2004's 'Modules' subfolder and deleting the FS2002 version of FSUIPC(fsupic.dll). It sounds like you will need FSUIPC for FS2004, so download and install the FS2004 version of it from here... http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmlI'd be willing to bet that the reason you still get this same error message even after uninstalling FS2004 and reinstalling it is because, you didn't delete the FS2004 folder after uninstalling it. The uninstaller only removes files it placed on your hard drive and leaves behind any files you added. If you add files to FS2004 and then uninstall/reinstall it, the files you added(FS2002 version of FSUIPC) are still there and will still be there when you reinstall. Unless of course you delete those files before reinstalling. There are uninstallers that will prompt you with a message such as... 'Game Name' folder is not empty. Would you like to revmove the folder anyway? But I don't think the FS2004 uninstaller prompts with any such info/message. I have seen a lot of people have problems with various games because they tried to uninstall and reinstall a game because of a problem created by an addon, without first getting rid of all their addon files by deleting the 'Game Name' folder BEFORE reinstalling. I don't know why all game developers do not make their uninstallers with a prompt asking if you would like to delete the folder! It would save a lot of people a lot of headaches. Even knowing this, I myself have simply forgotten when reinstalling a game once or twice and had to go back and delete the folder and reinstall again.Hope that helps

Version 3.xx (now at 3.70) of FSUIPC is required for FS9. If the developer of the utility requiring it has not requested a license registration from FSUIPC (freeware authors do not need to pay but must request access, payware developers purchase a registration to use features they require) you might have to purchase a registration for version 3.xx to use all of its features. After you download FSUIPC current version read the documentation advising of all the features available with a user paid registration.I have the full version and use its control mapping and calibration features on a per aircraft basis. This is in addition to the features already included in the Radar Contact access and Active Sky 6 access.

Ok, making progress. I have successfully removed and reinstalled FS 2004. To get where I want to be I think I need the msfs2002sr20b aircraft, the 9.1 update, and a Garmin 430.What order should I install these in? Is there a Garmin 430 suitable for FS 2004? Thanks,Gaynor

Hi,The 9.1 update requires certain files to be 'default' 9.0 files. In other words, not tampered with(changed) by the installation of any addons that have been installed, which some earlier FS9 addons were known to do. Therefore, I recomend that you install the 9.1 update last, and if the installation of an addon has tampered with any of the required 9.0 files the updater will inform you of that, although I doubt any of the addons you have listed do so.
