Reggie,I have come to make sure I read everything you have to say about AI traffic because you seem to show lots af battle scars from having been thru the proceedures and are willing to share your knowlege to help those of us who want to play in AI land.I have read many times that you suggest to someone to pay attention to the afcads when doing AI traffic. I have to a point, specifically I try to use PAI afcads since the generally have more parking. My problem is that my favorite part of the flight is ground based. That's to say that I like the airport envoiroment. Most default airport don't have jetways and that is important to me. So i get caugt up looking for AFCADS or Sceneries with these items. problem with that is I sacrifice traffic in some cases. The other problem is that I find a good scenery that uses default airports.Questions: If I use PAI offical AFCADS can I place them in other scenery? What I think I mean is can I make them fit? Does the size of an AFCAD indicate the existance of jetways? (Sometimes there is no picture to preview)Thanks for lending your time and patience when answering our questions.MonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

I'm not Reggie Fields, but I can help you out: any of AFCAD should be labeled with what scenery it goes with... default, flytampa, simflyers, freeware by Jan Martin... etc.As for Jetways, AFCAD has absolutely nothing to do with them... Jetways are always added in a different .bgl file that goes with the actual airport scenery. AFCAD is only going to control the AI traffic and some tarmac and taxi-way lines. Not much else. Try finding a scenery with jetways then searching on PAI or AVSIM or wherever for an AFCAD designed for that scenery. Hope this helps.http://www.kthxdone.com/images/kw_ft.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs

Thanks , Ken! Are you saying it is possible that a particular pai or other AFCAD might work with with a paticular scenery? I have on occasions applied a certain scenery and changed the afcad but when I looked down on it the structures are out of place. for example, i live in Indianapolis and I use KIND-v1 by Jeff Thomas because it uses RWY 12 object. But when I tried the PAI afcad becuse of the more realistic traffic parking the terminal is out of place so the parking is wrong. One day when I grow up I'm going to learn how to use Lees AFCAD program. Thanks for your help, and all the stuff, you made that I can use to make this more enjoyable for me and others who don't have the skill or time.MonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

My pleasure. :) Yes. An AFCAD is not universal for a certain airport. For example, if you search for "KLAX" here on AVSIM you'll see many AFCADs listed... some will be for default scenery, some simflyers, some cloud9, etc. You need to have the AFCAD that corresponds to the scenery you have installed in Flight sim. But if you use the Simflyers scenery with a default afcad, you are bound to see aircraft not going where they should. If you want, send me an e-mail [email protected]... I'll be glad to answer more of your questions or even help you out with AFCAD if you take the plunge. (you could also look at my guide here on avsim, although I uploaded the wrong version, there's only one small spelling mistake).http://www.kthxdone.com/images/kw_ft.jpgKen Weik [link:maam.org|MAAM-SIM][link:library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=root&SearchTerm=kenneth+weik&Sort=Added&ScanMode=0&Go=Change+View]My AFCADs

As stated above - the AFCAD must match any airport scenery you have. You can check the readme, but most of the Rwy12 augmented airports I see are exactly that - the default airport with some additional objects. Most AFCAD's state the scenery they are for. I personally rename all on my system by the scenery and source. Most are AF2_xxxx_Default_xxx.bgl, but some are named AF2_KSEA_FlyTampa.bgl and such. Most payware addon scenery, such as Cloud9 and FlyTampa, is much more accurate about building placement, runway, taxiway and apron placement than FS2004 - which uses aviation data from Jeppsen to place the runways, taxiways and aprons. With today's aerial or satellite photo technology - scenery designers can be as accurate as the local county tax assessor in placing buildings. However very few of the world's airports are surveyed for the charts that accurately. A 10M inaccuracy in a 4,000M runway is a 0.25% error.FS2004 has private airports whose owners purposely list the location and runways incorrectly with the FAA to avoid other traffic. Legally that is allowed. They can also request their small private airports be left off the charts. Now if you want AI traffic, your airports have to match both your scenery and your AI traffic plans. If the real world airport has four parking spots for Southwest Airlines, and your traffic plans have five aircraft on the airport - the AFCAD will never work properly with only four SWA spots. We do not have the luxury in Flight Sim of declining an additional arrival and ordering it to divert to another airport. Though that happens sometimes, we also don't have the ability in Flight Sim to hook a tug up to an aircraft and back it across the ramp and park them as tight as the cheap seats in back.Make sure you have plenty of overflow parking without parking codes. If you do not have some empty spots on your airport at all times - you do not have enough parking. If you don't want to add spots, get rid of flights / flightplans. The AFCAD program is really easy and Lee Swordy wrote what I consider the very best help file/ tutorial in the computer world. But start with a small airport with only a few aircraft.KIND is much too busy to be able to see the impact of your changes.Always make a backup of any file you like before working on it.

Thanks, Ken. I really appreciate the offer and i'll try not to burden you. fact is that I do you several of your AFCADS. In particlar LAX.Gotta get through coaching a girl softball team for the fall and if I survive. I'll come a begging.:-) Until then I'll study so I'll know the right questions to ask.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

Reggie,Thanks for the response. I read one of your other responses in another thread and you mentioned "overflow" parking. When you say that, do you mean to have more spots available for a particulr airline , or just other non designated parking spots? When I look at some afcads the gates, or parking spots do not designate( I may be spelling that wrong.)an airline. Is this considered overflow?I guess what I mean is if I am using Atlanta, If I eliminate a few Delta legs in a flight plan, do I then create overflow parkings?MonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

At most airports there is a section of out of the way ramp which is used when weather puts extra planes into the airport, maintenance issues, etc.Put some extra large parking spots there with no parking codes. The real problem with parking codes is that if ONE airplane arrives and all its parking code spots are full - it will park somewhere. If the only open spots are for other airline parking codes, that will setup what we call the cascade - airline after airline pushing each other out of parking. This is a big issue on startup. Most people either have many traffic files, or one big traffic file. Of course you can see the traffic files are loaded one, then the next, then the next..Big traffic files are usually organized the same way.If the files are arranged in alphabetical order, American and Continental can occupy all the parking at Atlanta, leaving Delta almost no spots - in the default AFCAD.My rule of thumb when building an airport is 10-15% of the parking will be away from the terminal and not have a parking code.I mark these spots as GATE R and a # - with no parking code. Until I always see four or five of those spots empty for an airport the size of KIND - I know I don't have enough parking for my flight plans.

Thank you for explaining that in a way I can understand. At first I was confused because Since IND is my home airport I use it as an origination point or arrival point. I never do go arounds coming here. Now I see the trap I was setting for myself since I was doing my best to put more and more traffic into the airport using flight plans. I also now see why you consider it a large airport.I appreciate the info that you, Ken, and others freely take time to share with those of us who ask. I've learned alot by reading some of the answers you guys and gals give. On behalf of all of us who have questions but are afraid to ask I thank you and all those who are willing to not kill us, and for being there to help us. Additionally, thank for your CDAI CRJ-700 which I use, and the Modified GA package which I'm afraid to use:-)( I haven't figured out how or why I need GA traffic yet since I'm hung up on jets. The way I fly, "low and slow" is also closer to the ground and really brings out my inability to properly trim a plane for straight and level flight:-))Thank you for the knowlegeMonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)

There is a recent better US Airways Express / PSA CRJ-700 repaint in the library by Ryan Adams. He's a real painter - I have trouble with walls.cdai_cr7_psa.zipTry some of our Ultimate GA Bizjet AI packages - not auto install - but just copy the complete aircraft folders to your main aircraft folder, the traffic file and the light map to the textures folder.www.ultimatega.comThese are what I consider "major" airports in the US.http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/usmap.jspBut when learning AFCAD you really need an airport the size of KOMA - Omaha NE, or KLIT - Little Rock, AR or even smaller. Preferrably one with only one or two aircraft per airline and not more than 10-15 airline passenger aircraft.
