Hi, One of the things that bothered me was the ATC phraseology(sp) and having to repeat what I was hearing while I was trying to carry out tasks. It seems that the controllers speak very fast. Some do, but as you experience it more, the slower it seems to come.I found that it was good to use text, or ask the controller for text instructions. That way you can read it back knowing that you got it right. Fly short flight in one control space where there may be several small to medium traffic airports and one controller controlling all of them. Huston ARTCC for example, but there are others where that controller may have time to talk you through all phases of your flight. I found many of the controllers who are controlling you are pilots who understand exactly what you are going through because they had to go through the same anxiety:-) Don't be afraid to ask for a repeat of te instructions. It's real world. Don't be afraid to ask for a go around to get your composer. Don't be afraid to ask for Vectors out of the pattern to try to get it right.Don't be afraid to disconnect if you find yourself overwhelmed.Listening and responding to other peoples instructions off mic is great practice. Finally, go with an experienced pilot. Let them go first and you'll have someone to imitate since you'll know what is coming.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
  2. >I know this was a shot at me, and all I can say is>"whatever". Beside it's not a debate that ###### me off, it>was someone being a jackass that caused me to create this>thread. >DanFirst of all, I share your concerns 100%. However, I hope you won't mind me using this post as an example,Dan.When I read the posters comment, I did not see it as a rub against you directly. In my mind he was offering a truizm of many perpetrators of flame. As has been brought up many times before, we are a large , World Wide community, and our languages sometimes causes problems. In some peoples minds, the term, "whatever" is considered a dismiss of that person and an attack upon his existance, when as if feel in your case you actually said"...I'm not going to let your statement bother me, nor am I going to allow it to cause me to respond in a negative way."I have some concern when people in these forums feel tat there is am implied "right" to say anything. Maybe I'm wrong in my thinking, but though I am a member here, I don't own this site or this forum. For me to be allowed to do anything within AVSIM is a "privilage" and not a "right". The fact that individuals feel that they have a "right" here also contributes to the feeling that they can get away with whatever they want and if recourse is taken, somehow, it is a violation of the Constitution. You guys hve bought up some good points in this discussion and I enjoy the conversation. But, it is not only in this forum where the problem exists, which is unfortunate. Is it an "age"thing? I don't think so. I see, so called "adults" acting up worse than our younger members and therefore set the poorest examples. In my mind, as long as we have people who choose not to argue a point to satisfy their ego and would rather stop, or just remain quiet versus piling on to be, "on the right side", we'll do alright. For now, I refuse to let someone steal my enjoyment of this hobby of our's.We have to many good people that have the answers I need and I know they are watching and waiting for that one person who really needs, or wants the help. And they make themselves accessible via PM or email. So, when I see their name I read and hang on every word and skip the bull of the "wanna be's".Dan, I thank you for bringing up the subject and I hope that I have not offended you by using your post as an examole.LaMonte CrenshawBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2

"I already copied the panel files from my default 747 in the PMDG 747 panel folder but I just got an empty sight when I look,...."I really want to say something, but the sound of my bottom jaw hitting the floor keeps distracting me.:-hang You're gonna have to help me here, bud.....I really don't understand what you're going for here.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
  5. Are you register with VATSIM? Are you using FS9 or which version. You don't need a mic to see the servers in your area is why I'm asking. When you start SB it is not connected to the server. You have to connect and when you do it is going to ask you for your information and if you are using FS9 ( i don't use FSX so I don't know) it will connect you to a multiplayer game.Lets say that you are registered and you just can't seem to get SB to say that you calibration was successful. Ignore it. When you listen for the playback, if you hear you voice then ask for a radio check from a controller.Hate to sound wishy washy but we need alittle more info about what it is you actually are experiencing.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2

  7. Andy...I hope you don't mind me addng to your response but I am in so much agrement with you. Dave,I too miss your "Tips and Tricks" Publications. I know it's alot of work for you but you have helped me and I know for sure , others learn and enjoy this hobby in a form that made it understandable. I often refer back to them as I progress in my learning to be able to take the next step. Because you wrote for different experience levels the information is also timely.Hope you're working on another one. Call it selfish but I like it when you sweat to help us learn and share your knowlege with us.:-)Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
  8. "KBOS is a great Airport to try it out on Smart thinking for Aerosoft to allow that one for free. It worked on me. ""Smart thinking>>>>You got that right! Heck. They give you KBOS and DEMO's for other popular airports you may own like FLYTAMPA which are already great.Major improvements and easy to use. I can't wait until they are able to add more airports. No "IF or Buts" about it...I will be spending money.Best regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
  9. Craig,I didn't ask the question but I'm glad it was asked. I haven't attempted to fly the 747 but one day I will.I just want to thank you for the tutorial. 11. I agree with you. I fly some of those routes and i find that it is important to calculate the fuel and weight using whatever tools or devices you might have.Using Flightaware I have often attempted to immulate the aircrafts progress to include altititudes. What I see is that sometimes the plane has to cruise at a certain step before it is able to climb to its final cruising altitude.Fuel weight is an issue. a couple of examples are SWA from KMDW to KDEN flies at 40000,with around 135 pax, 11866 lbs cargo, and uses 14100.76 lbs of fuel not counting extra fuel needed. I fly with 18608 lbs for the 781 mile trip. KSTL to KSLC uses close to the same amount for a 1014 mile trip. 12. "Technically correct" Used to be what was for me My idea of what was "technically correct" and that was all that mattered. For me my enjoyment cames from the airport enviorment so put all my energy there.I recently joined a VA. I now see that "technically correct" has been "technically Wrong" and I have a lot to learn. So far being technically correct can be as fun (Which is what this is all about for some of us.) But being "technically incorrect has it's advantages. It is realist by nature. Being technically incorrect has sometimes cause new improvements and innovations. Think about it...The greatest idea of all came from someone that said,..."I think I can do that."MonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2
  13. Hi,DK, I know you said default 777's, but have you looked at MELJET 777'S?In my opinion (which is judt that) It is a good plane and has several paints. It is freeware and i like it better than the default aircraft.Doesn't hurt to look.MonnieBest regardsJan1,KINDWhen I push the button and it works, I'm happy:-)HP Media CenterPentium D 2.80 GHz Duel core2.00 GB RAMNVIDIA GeForce 6200SEConexant Falcon II NTSCXP SP2

  15. "Bit of a %^&$ really, as it's my virtual home base. Mind you, that's probably a bit silly being as i'm currently in London UK;-)"Alberto is a hard working man, but I'm pretty sure that you won't have to wait too long. I'm pretty happy wit LAX so far. Course, I haven't have time to mess it up yet:-)I was lucky enough to be accepted in a VA today. (SWVA). I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and my home base is Dallas, Texas. SCared to death but, I'm looking forward to learning from them. At least I can fly home sometimes in a reasonable amount of time. You must drink alot of tea when you fly from LA to home :-)Hope you get you problem solved real soon and sorry I could not help you.
