August 25, 200619 yr Anyone know what these DDS files are that have replaced bmps as textures? Are these the DXT5 formats I've heard people mentioning?
August 26, 200619 yr The DDS file format is used primarily by DirectX applications, and stands for DirectDraw Surface. You can learn more about this here: http://www.modwiki.net/wiki/DDS_(file_format)Essentially the .bmp files that have been used in FS 2004 are of .dds file structure, hence their being created by using the imagetool.exe tool provided by MS. Now we're actually naming them with the appropriate .dds extension. :)Being able to use DXT5 compression is really nice, because there will be no degradation of the alpha channel upon compression.Regards,Owen *****<br>J. August 26, 200619 yr DXTBmp will also save in this format as well. Haven't checked the quality yet though.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/ambanner.jpg Best, Michael KDFW
August 26, 200619 yr Author Just been looking at the texturesOn the ground crew and some buildings I am seeingDay Texture is DTX1 ( No Alpha)Night(LM) is DTX1 ( No Alpha)Bump is DTX5 and the alpha also appears to be a bump.I think they are positive and negative bumps ???Specular is DTX5 and I assume relfection/Shine and the alpha appears to be a transperancy ???
August 26, 200619 yr Author The Bumps are really weird and I dont thinkthey are what I would normally call bump maps.Saw something really horrible in the plane textures.A couple of axe murderers posing as pilots.Someone should take them to a vet and have them de wormedor put down .:-lol
