New Autogen Idea

Featured Replies

well, I dont know if its a new idea...but I just thought of it!! It would be great in future versions to set the autogen density based on where you are flying. For example, I like the richness and denseness of autogen in the country where the frames are good. However, in the city I like to see smaller amounts to stay frame rate friendly. It would be cool if they could set a "city" density and a "country" density..the city density would be within say 20 square miles of the city...the country would be the rest...This obviously wouldnt cover all cities...just the major ones which take the most FPS hit. what do you guys think?

A nice idea. And if you add to that separate controls (at least in high density areas) for buildings and trees, then it'd be a lot easier to get the sim running smoothly on less than top of the line systems, while retaining as much as possible of the eye candy, tailored to the individual user.

Yup..good Idea. I would to add a dyanamic option..be able to change that with a key stroke..Like when I am in the soup (in IFR), I don't care for autogen or even texture update... I want the CPU dedicated to the guages...but as I get closer, below a certain alititude, I want all those goodies...and when I look out the window, If the guages are a little jerky... thats ok.:)Manny

With the new on the fly config file saving/loading you could do something like that, though it wouldn't be as automatic as I'm sure you'd like. The trick about country/city autogen levels would be having to define just what constitutes a city and what constitutes country, and providing a way for 3rd parties to change that later on.The autogen based on FPS might be more doable, but could result in really odd behavior because while FSX able to change settings and stuff in game, I'm pretty sure it wasn't designed with constantly changing autogen settings in mind. (Normally stuff like that is only changed after a visit to the menus, followed presumably by a total redraw of the scenery.)I'd say, wait and see what the full FSX delivers. Maybe you'll be able to have your autogen and FPS too. :)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

"I'd say, wait and see what the full FSX delivers. Maybe you'llbe able to have your autogen and FPS too. :)"now that would be nice!!! I do notice that the AI aircraft in the demo are extreme frame rate hogs...with autogen at normal and sitting at TNCM on rwy 09, I can get 30 FPS (Target FPS:30)Add two planes to the mix and wham.....22-24 FPS for two planes!!!! I will definately be getting third-party AI if the default AI is this heavy in the full release.
