August 22, 200619 yr With the release of FSX not far away I was thinking that it would be fun to have a multiplayer round the world event. This is what I was thinking.1) We develop a plan consisting of say 20 legs. These legs would be of short, middle and long range distances. We try to visit each continent and overfly interest areas (eg grand canyon, himalaya's, carribean, hawaii , north pole, etc etc). 2) We plot this plan on google earth along with schedule flight date/time. So that we have a nice map of when/where we are flying.3) Maybe we restrict aircraft to only the default FSX aircraft.4) For each leg someone will act as tower controller for the departure and arrival airports.5) The rest of us fly the leg using appropriate FSX aircraft, eg GA for short range, regional for middle range, and the heavies for long range legs. 6) Enroute we could be pretty relaxed about seperation, because I think it would be fun fly formation using multiplayer. Though during departure and arrival we do maintain seperation, but this would be the controllers job anyway!7) We have a password on our multiplayer sessions so that we don't have to put up with any "wreckers" from the "outside".8) We have a simple webpage (maybe hosted on AVSIM?) where we can document all this, or maybe we can just use this thread.Anyone have any thoughts?

August 22, 200619 yr Maybe forget about the short range legs (ie the GA aircraft)... if its a round the world flight i think it should just consist of longer range flights (in the regionals and heavies).Maybe the legs are planned so that each leg is about 2 to 3 hrs flight time. This would prevent boredom.

August 22, 200619 yr Actually, thats a good point that some people just fly GA. So lets keep in the short legs.People can pick and choose the legs they want to fly.
August 22, 200619 yr Just a clue here...I have been trying to justify a round the world flight for a long time now but have not done it as of yet. However, I would say that you will need a minimum of 22-30 legs if you are to keep boredom down and energy left to complete the thing!
August 22, 200619 yr I don't think everyone would complete every leg. I think its more a case of "here's ours google map and schedule, come and fly a leg when you can".With the small 16 player limit in FSX multiplayer, I imagine it would be a case of "first come, first served".
August 22, 200619 yr We've also added a new feature to MP in FSX--the ability to start in the air "near" the session host. It should save tons of time trying to figure out "where is everybody?"
August 22, 200619 yr Nice feature! You're probably not able to answer these questions but I'll ask anyway :) 1) Is the server limited to only 16 players?2) Can sessions be password protected?3) Can users be forced to use server weather (real weather or themed)?4) Can users be forced to use server date/time?5) Can users be forced to use a server specific list of planes?6) Can the server generate a flight log for each user?7) Can users be kicked/banned from the server?8) Can users be prevented from starting on the active runway?I guess we'll all know soon enough. :)
August 22, 200619 yr Author Can you change the radius of "nearness"? What if I want to sneak up on somebody? :-)Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-) Tom Perry
