August 13, 200619 yr Help!!!I'm at a loss. I've tried every setting possible, and cannot seem to get the cool reflective features of the new FSX water. I've seen tons of Screenshots and my water looks nothing like them. I've updated my vid card drivers, updated my DirectX version, overclocked my vid card, increased my page file, maxed hardware accelaration, maxed all of my vid card settings for Anti-aliasing, mip-mapping etc., tried every screen resolution possible and still nothing. My water textures in FSX look almost exactly the same as in FS9.my rig:Dell Dimension 3000 (8 months old)2.8Ghz Pentium 4512Mb RAM256Mb ATi Radeon 9250 Vid Card160 Gb HDDReading the box and manual for the Radeon card it states it as being DirectX9 compatible, and has Smartshader 2.0 built in. I'm not sure if this is the same as what I'm hearing everyone talk about "shader 2.0" or not.Posted below are a few Screenshots. 2 from FS9 and two more taken in FSX. They show what I have been looking at for 3 days now. Here is what the water in FSX looks like for me with all sliders maxed:http://flyiva.flightsimfly-in.com/images/FSXwater.pngNow here is the exact same area in FS9 taken at exactly the same time of day, and with the same weather:http://flyiva.flightsimfly-in.com/images/FS9water.pngThis is how my sun reflection looks in FSX: (light patch at tip of left wing):http://flyiva.flightsimfly-in.com/images/FSXreflect.png And another from FS9. Again exact time of day, location, and weather condition as in the FSX screenshot:http://flyiva.flightsimfly-in.com/images/FS9reflect.pngI do have other screenshots taken from surface level, and from that perspective the water is completely identical to FS9. No reflections of terrain/autogen as is seen in many screenshots.Any help is appreciated in advance.
August 13, 200619 yr http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9200/radeon9200/specs.htmlAccording to ATI's website, the 9250 has "1.4 pixel shaders support up to 22 instructions and up to 6 textures per rendering pass"and"1.1 vertex shaders support vertex programs up to 128 instructions"So it appears that it it does not support Shader 2.0 standards, but then again, the site also only claims DirectX 8.1 support, so who knows?

I'd make sure your drivers are updated, and then try reinstalling the demo.
August 13, 200619 yr If you check the display.cfg in the FSXDemo folder (open with notepad) you will find that most of the Nvidia FX5--- cards have the line Shader20Plus=0 - you could try commenting out that line in the display.cfg (put a semi-colon ; at the start of the line) and try it.I did this for my FX5600 card and got a small radius of reflective water (enough to see the effect when floating on the water) and a frame rate drop from 20fps to 5fps - I think you also need the water details at 2.x-mid or higher. It might be an idea to back up the display.cfg before messing around with it. August 14, 200619 yr Or you can just change the value to "1" instead of "0, seems a little easier...CH
