  1. Another tweak I have seen suggested to ease the stutters is to increase the texture resolution from 1m to 7cm seems illogical but did give me some improvement.Chris

PhilYou need to be looking in the display.cfg which should be in your main FSX folder -Program FilesMicrosoft GamesMicrosoft Flight Simulator XThe NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Ultra is listed towards the end of the Nvidia cards.Chris
  3. DennisWhite taxiway signs was covered here:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...topic_id=358303I think all of us with FX5000 series graphics cards (or older) will need to upgrade to get the best out of FSX :( Chris

Hi RakeI also recall that you could switch off the autopilot wing leveler in the aircraft config but can't recall what is was - it may have been an extra line added rather than one changed. You could always use Ctrl-V to toggle it off/on in flight - see Aircraft/Kneeboard/Keys/Autopilot commands. Chris
  5. To enable the shader 2 for FX5600 card go to the file display.cfg in the main FSX folder scroll down 'til you find the card (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 #13068) then change this line Shader20Plus=0 to Shader20Plus=1 and save (Possibly backing up the oringinal display.cfg first!)This will give you really terrible fps especially if you set water details to 2x (But it's worth doing just to see the reflections)I thought about a new card, the fx6200 allows shader2 and is quite cheap, but I'm now going down the new system route with a relativly cheap card with the plan to upgrade to Vista and DX10 about a year later.Chris
  6. I have a similar problem in the demo (version 2) with the taxiway signs and I also have the FX5600 graphics card - I enabled shader 2.0 (temporarily) in the display.cfg and the problem went away but frame rates drop to unuseable levels. Other than that I haven't found a solution yet - the texture for the taxiway signs seems to be exactly the same as FS9 and I couldn't find a night texture (it possibly uses the same texture). Sorry I couldn't be more help.Chris
  7. Hi BarryI would certainly say that FSX is useable. The settings I used in the demo were mostly above the default settings the sim suggested. Most of the time I was getting above 20 fps this compares to about 50 fps with FS9. I found the flights smoother in FSX even at about 15 fps. I did find that the autogen gave a big hit (known issue) and the clouds to a lesser extent. In FS9 I use replacement cloud textures and fly mostly in the UK (VFR Photographic scenery) so generally less autogen.I will be buying it in October and run it on my present system until I upgrade at the end of the year.Chris www.cwdflight.co.uk/flightsim
  8. HiIn the fsx demo I can get a useable 20-25 fps without autogen or air traffic but with some 15% road and sea traffic and most of the other sliders at the mid way point. With the FX5600 card I can only use 1.0x water settings. Spec - AMD Athlon 1.3, 640mb 133 SDRAM, Nvidia 128mb FX5600. Hard drives : 1)5400 HD 40gb with XPSP2, . 2)7200 80gb FS9.1 FSX demo+ all add ons on. This system is now 5yrs old and will be replaced at the end of this year. As I hope to upgrade to DX10 at some point and funds are limited I'll probably only fit a low end 256mb graphics card to the upgrade and see what the state of play is regarding DX10/Vista in about a year.Chriswww.cwdflight.co.uk/flightsim

As an experiment I moved the FS9 St Maarten photo scenery to FSX and disabled the FSX version and it worked fine - this would seem to bode well for the Visual Flight scenery and similar VFR sceneries. But as others have said we'll have to wait until the full release to find out for certain.Chris
  10. HiThe display.cfg in the FSXdemo folder has the following entry for most of the FX5--- series cards Shader20Plus=0This, I think, stops FSX using the shader2 functions of these cards - it can be disable but gives very unsatisfactory results at least it did for me.ChrisAMD Athlon 1.3, 512mb 133 SDRAM, Nvidia 128mb FX5600
  11. If you check the display.cfg in the FSXDemo folder (open with notepad) you will find that most of the Nvidia FX5--- cards have the line Shader20Plus=0 - you could try commenting out that line in the display.cfg (put a semi-colon ; at the start of the line) and try it.I did this for my FX5600 card and got a small radius of reflective water (enough to see the effect when floating on the water) and a frame rate drop from 20fps to 5fps - I think you also need the water details at 2.x-mid or higher. It might be an idea to back up the display.cfg before messing around with it.
