August 12, 200619 yr Indeed you can, see the SharedSkies vid. A kid and his grandfather fly the r22 together. :) Bernard
August 12, 200619 yr I asked about this earlier but didn't receive confirmation. As far as I know, we have not yet been told about the true extent of the "cockpit sharing" ability of FSX.It was revealed earlier that when you share a cockpit with another player only ONE of the two will have "control". Control is handed over by pressing SHIFT+T. If you have the demo you can confirm this by going to Options -> Settings -> Controls -> Buttons / Keys -> Event category: Multiplayer. You'll see "Transfer/accept control (shared aircraft)" listed. What has not been explained is what "control" covers. Is it literally control over the plane's control surfaces, meaning that the person "in control" can fly the plane by hand while the other person can operate other functions such as the autopilot, landing gear, flaps and so forth? Or does it mean control of EVERY interactive feature on the plane, essentially making the player not in control a passenger who can chat, change views and see the other player operating the plane but otherwise do nothing. Basically an "instructor / student" situation.Personally, considering the "not in this version" trend we've witnessed with FSX's development, I'm inclined to think the latter is what we'll have. No pilot / co-pilot, just instructor / student. The fact that in the video grandpa and grandson were both playing with their gamepads at the same time doesn't mean diddly squat because this was a promotional video and it does not have to be perfectly accurate. Maybe one was flying the thing (the kid) and the other one was admiring his progress from a spot view and talking with the ATC (the grandpa).
August 12, 200619 yr Janne,This was also what I got from the description, that one person is just an observer or whatever while the other person has complete control of the aircraft, which can be then be traded back and forth. Not the ideal situation, but certainly better than before.
August 12, 200619 yr I'm inclined to believe it's flight controls as opposed to everything. Only one pilot could effectively operate the control surfaces without conflict but both could effectively operate switches etc.But yeah, we could do with a bit more info regarding this feature. Bernard

Both players can manage all the controls *except* for flight controls--network latency would make it very difficult to prevent "figthing". You'll be able to do pilot/co-pilot, student/instructor, whatever. Unless you want to wait until the next version that is... ;)
