August 11, 200619 yr >Yes I would like to hear the official statement on 7cm per>pixel as well. My jaw dropped when I saw that. I'm all for>making things as real as it gets but that just seems like>overkill :-lol.Well, that's what the engine will do--well *try* to do. I would not recommend upsampling all your landclass textures though. However, you will find that in the shipping product the road/stream/rail textures do look a lot better at resolutions better than 1m, if your rig can handle it.
August 11, 200619 yr I made a screenshot which shows the difference between a setting of 2m and 1m! The best things you can do is download these images, open them in Windows-viewer and switch between them with the arrow-buttons: then you will clearly see the difference! I love it! For instance, whatch the grass on the slope of the mountain in the disctance (at the right of the not-resized picture): it really has more (how shall I call it) 3D-structure (even better said: 2m has no structure there but 1m does)! And don't forget: the final versions doesn's stop at 1m...!First the complete screenshot, resized in order to make it not too big...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153810.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153808.jpgAnd here is a part of the original (not resized) image.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153812.jpg http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/153811.jpg BTW I have changed the watershader to high_1 in order to see the 1m texture: doing things was VERY good for my fps also. I have the autogensliders maxed out and still get very nice fps on my Intel 3.0 HT and Radeon 9800 Pro! Flying above forests is very realistic now with all those trees! I'm so happy I became a VFR-flyer last year ;) because FS X will be awesome for flying low. P.S. About my good fps: that's not the complete truth: fps is nice, but the groundtextures won't get updated if I fly around... I have to pause the sim every 10 seconds in order to let the sim load the textures. But I don't mind because I plan to buy a Vista/DX10 computer specially for FS X. :)
August 11, 200619 yr And remember - FS9's best terrain texture size is ~4m!As demonstrated in an ACES blog some months ago, the difference is astounding - especially when you see it in the sim itself!-Greg
