July 29, 200619 yr Let's hope nothing you can't work around.Things designed to make things easier usually make things harder...
July 29, 200619 yr > Things designed to make things easier usually make things harder...I usually find the opposite, especially with kitchen appliances ;)
July 31, 200619 yr Good idea... i think this is essential for the non-hardcore users MS are trying to attract.
July 31, 200619 yr Author Yeah but FSX ain't a toaster oven. :)Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 31, 200619 yr Author It is good for those new to FS...but as was said I sure hope it can be circumvented. In a related vein, I _really_ don't like it when an add-on FORCES you to put a certain file in a certain place. Like the Tinmouse 737...etc. etc.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 31, 200619 yr I think it worked well with the addon scenery folder in FS9. I wonder if it is going to be an addon manager where it is going to be a one click install/uninstall. Chris Miller

July 31, 200619 yr Author I never warmed up to the /addon scenery folder.I feel like nested directories are a confusing mess. C:PROGRAM FILESMICROSOFTMicrosoft Flight Simulator 2004 ??? Yuck. How about E:FS2004? Nice and simple.I also am of the opinion that it takes the system longer to parse/access files in nested dir's. Therefore I have for years now, used /scenery. So simple.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
August 1, 200619 yr You have always been able to set the installation directory. No need to accept the default. In fact, mine just happens to be E:FS2004!! No foolin'!!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/
August 1, 200619 yr Does This actually help the sim run faster? It seems logical that it would but can you see the difference in frames that matters the most. Also the Addon Scenery folder is just the same if you put it in the normal scenery folder. Chris Miller
August 1, 200619 yr Hi,Nope, it just make things easier to remember, and quicker when I need to go to my FS folder. Also, I have all FS related software on this E drive as well. The only way the sim runs faster is with better hardware. It will load faster with proper computer maintainance.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

No foolin'!!>Uh that's exactly what I said Jim. Coincidentally, I use E:FS2004 as well. And I use E:SCENERY for all the scenery. And I use E:FSTOOLS for afcad, etc.ActiveSky, now I do realize that it needs to alter some FS2004 files, so that you couldn't have ALL of it's files in E:FSTOOLSASV6. In FSX, as I do in FS2004, I guess I will have to keep a /SAFE directory somewhere, with the stock FS files (textures, and so on...) just in case.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
