The original poster said, "I see it repeated often that FSx is "optimised" Well, then my question is, how can FSX be "optimized" for DX10? Sure, FSX can be tested and fiddled with on DX10 using a software renderer, but can it be truly "optimized" (in the true sense of that word) for DX10 without having DX10 compliant hardware on the testbed system?Besides, I always thought FSX wouldn't be optimized for DX10 until MS releases this "update/patch" they hinted about, at a much later date, of course.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
July 11, 200619 yr you will miss what you missed with DX9 when it came out while you were running a DX8 card.. aka not that much really.
July 11, 200619 yr Hi Barry,This is a good question because you brought up "optimized" and "exactly". "Optimized" is a marketing department term used by companies when they can't tell you "exactly" what you are buying. From my readings, when you run FSX on and XP system you are using a closed API (DX9) which software restricts what a add-on developer can make. With Vista you are using an open API (DX10) which allows the developers the freedom to create add-ons which are limited by hardware instead of software. So the "exact features" will really be determined by what add-on developers try to create with the new API (DX10).
July 11, 200619 yr Ummmmm. The trailer was on a ATI Radeon X850XT 512mb, E3 was on a single 7800GTX. Also, someone I know, knows a beta tester. He sais it runs fine, BUT, he hasn't given out any information. And no, that beta tester wasn't a liar, I am certain (gave me abit of proof).
