Another "need to be fixed"

Featured Replies

I searched the posts but did not find anything mentioned. One thing that came to mind last night when I was taking off onmoderate crosswind, is the aircraft ground handling. And by that I don't mean the loading/unloading/servicing of the aircraft. I mean the aicraft behaviour while the wheels are still firm on the ground, like during taxi, take-off roll and after landing. In FS2004 and all previous versions the wind affects the aircaft way too much and it seems like it's rolling on ice. Try to take-off with a moderate crosswind, say about 15-20Kts. Even by maintaing the proper rudder/aileron deflection, onces the surfaces become active, wont keep the aircraft from drifting away from the centerline in a manner like it's slipping on an icy surface!I really hope they fixed (or will fix) this. Strong wind may cause some effect on the aicraft but it doesn't turn or slip the aircraft while all wheels are firm on the ground at low speeds.George DorkofikisAthens, Hellashttp://online.vatsimindicators.net/811520/1704.png

Also, is it possible that we don't have "Glue Tyres" this time? In FS2004 you have to taxi an aircraft with 40-50% N1 while in real life pilots will taxi with VERY little thrust, mostly idle.

Yep ground fiction certainly needs to be addressed!
Randy J. Smith
AMD 64 4000+|ASUS K8V DELUXE|SAPPHIRE ATI X800XT PE|MUNCHKIN 3200|80 gig SATA|DELL 1905FP 19" LCD|TRACKir PRO|PFC JEPPESEN MOONEY YOKE|CH PRO PEDALS|

Agreed. Even right down to the Cessna. That is what I am flying now in my beginners part of my flight program at school, and I have to apply literally 3 times the power in the sim as I do in real life.

and I have to apply literally 3 times the power in the sim as I do in real life. Yes this one limiting factor on the ground creates all types of issues. This is certainly not limited to GAs, airliner developers have had to perform loops in codes to get some type of replication albiet at the cost of realism in related areas.
Randy J. Exactly. I have the awesome PMDG series Aircraft (looking forward to the Cargo variant so I can do a feature onmy reviews page - if I can afford the bird at the time) and it is amazing the differences. I have a Boeing Manual from a domestic airline (2000+ pages worth) and try to follow the book to the tee. On PMDG AC I can do this - except on the ground. So much for taxi fuel predictions LOL.

I've often wished someone could write a dll to manage wind while on the ground for FS2004. FSUIPC had a feature to kill the wind while on the ground, but this isn't a realistic way to handle the issue either, since one has to factor the additional airspeed a crosswind component can add. A good add-on would:~Monitor the surface windspeed and direction~On activation (say, just prior to takeoff roll), save the surface windspeed and direction and calculate a new windspeed and line up the direction so the aircraft is more or less taking off into the wind and such that the windspeed on the nose (or tail if one's taking off "with" the wind) is what it would have been given the angle of the "original" wind to the line of flight.~Once off the ground, restore the windspeed and direction saved at the moment the module was activated~Repeat the process at touchdown until the user deactivates the moduleIf I could code it, I would, but I wouldn't have a clue of how to write such a dll. What I do know is the way taxi and takeoff works with the wind now in FS2004 and FS2002 before it is simply not right, at least for tri-gear models.-John

and what purpose does that serve, except to annoy people with yourself?Did you follow the official road to make your request? Did you figure out for yourself that now wouldn't be a good time to ask for new features in the product, this close to release?

"and what purpose does that serve, except to annoy people with yourself?Did you follow the official road to make your request? Did you figure out for yourself that now wouldn't be a good time to ask for new features in the product, this close to release?"I think that response to his comments is way out of line. The ground handling and crosswind issues have been known about and posted about for a long time, since the days of FS2002 and perhaps even before that. They should be a surprise to no one scanning these forums, and they can hardly be considered "new" features to ask for. Rather, they are requested (and requested, and requested) fixes for issues that anyone who has spent any time in a cockpit would agree simply aren't right and should have been fixed in MSFS versions made long ago.I think members here should better spend their time elsewhere vs. going off on fellow members when they make reasonable requests--I found nothing unreasonable in the thread, and no disrespect towards the MSFS team or MSFS "process".-John

Would it be to difficult for Mr Dowson.... ?????

I think Pete's the one that could do it, or someone familiar with the FSUIPC interface could code a tool that does it. Problem is not many are interested in coding for FS2004 these days, and it would be nifty if FS2002 were fixed too--I still use FS2002 for overcast flying when I want to practice ILS approaches and blind landings.I think it's pretty complex since you don't want the tool overwriting surface winds without saving them first. Thus I think you'd need to be able to hotkey an activation sequence to get the tool to snapshot the winds. One other issue is taking off at sea level, and landing above the surface wind layer. I don't know how challenging it would be to write code that detects what layer the aircraft is sitting in when on the ground.-John

The tone and placement were to me quite clearly meant as a prerelease complaint about FSX. "It's still not fixed"...

Sorry--misunderstood. Nobody could make that assertion about FSX prerelease--only that the fix for the issue (to my knowledge) hasn't been mentioned.-John
