May 31, 200620 yr I don't know if anyone is able to answer this question yet but here goes anyway:Will the AI in FSX when they are on the ground, behave differently than FS 2004?In particular I spent over 50 mins yesterday waiting to line up on 27L at EGLL (Heathrow - UK) while I waited for blocking AI to disappear in front of me because they couldn't get a slot to take off.The problem seemed to be landing aircraft that departed the runway to the right, but wanted to immediately take a taxiway and turn left to cross the active. The taxiway was there, but they wouldn't cross the runway and so stopped. ( There wasn't any AI on the other side blocking them). Eventually the queue backed up and blocked the runway. Stopping anything from landing or taking off.The ultimate outcome was that they eventually disappeared. So my questions are, will AI still just stop and take ages to disappear, will we able to configure the time it takes for that to happen or will they be able to sort themselves out better?RegardsMark
May 31, 200620 yr Hi,They changed things betwen FS2002 and FS2004, and I'm sure there will be some changes in FSX. But then we will end up with another set of problems to complain about. :)There is a workaround for the problem you are describing - in AFCAD if you move the intersecting node between that taxiway and the runway a little to the side (along the runway) and create a new taxiway segment between the two hold short nodes (NOT connecting with the runway), then the planes will taxi across the runway even when there is a plane landing or taking off.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
June 1, 200620 yr Author What Tom said ;)As for AI behaving, I'm sure we don't have any drunk AI pilots flying out there lol... Of course you have to watch out for the AI flight attendants they can be a bit distracting :-lol, of course they're all blonde...Oooo did I really go there? :-lol I'll blame the taco bell I just ate with fire sauce :( Dean MountfordUltimate VFR
June 1, 200620 yr To second Tom's note - we really won't know much about AI behavior until we get our hands on the software and just as important - the SDK's.Microsoft / ACES designs FS for a certain level of AI traffic to add some "realism" to the environment. Then we come along and overload the program with real world schedules and aircraft loads. That's when we find out how really good real world controllers are and why they can never be replaced by computers.Only when we can modify flight plans, modify airport parking and track the AI aircraft through the phases of flight can we learn the capabilities of the program and AI aircraft behavior under heavy loads."will AI still just stop and take ages to disappear" - the timer in FS2004 is 5 minutes of no activity and the aircraft disappears - in FS2002 it was 15 minutes and the shorter time appears to have been implemented as a direct result of requests by flight simmers."will we able to configure the time it takes for that to happen or will they be able to sort themselves out better?" - a timer variable has been requested by many people - if that is not already in the package it's probably too late for FSX - but do make that request / suggestion to the [email protected] far as sorting themselves out better - we'd have to look at the AFCAD - but I really hope the "lock" an arriving aircraft places on the runway is changed. I have no clue how it could be done differently - that's why the ACES staff gets the big bucks. There are a lot of tricks we can use to speed AI traffic flow on the ground. One of the most important at EGLL is to not combine, sub-divide or restructure the I and O taxiway segments which come in the default AFCAD. That segmentation is pretty important for good traffic flow between the runways. And Dean - thanks for the business - stop by many times !!!
June 3, 200620 yr Author >And Dean - thanks for the business - stop by many times !!!lol what'd I do? :-)In terms of AI, if you want a solution right now that apparently works pretty well for FS2004 try fsgateway.com they have a program available there called FSAI Separation. I didn't ever get the chance to try it but it did get rave reviews when it came out... Dean MountfordUltimate VFR
