System Requirements for FSX?

Featured Replies

Has there been any word on what the system requirements for FSX will be? I ask because I'm going to be upgrading later in the summer so I want to have some kind of idea of what I'll need. I'm currently split between going with an AMD Opteron 144 1.8ghz or an Opteron 165 Dual Core 1.8ghz.

Buy the best for your budget. The better the spec, the better the game will look and perform. As far as I know there have been no system requirements stated, but rest assured whatever rig you buy, it probably won't be enough to max everything out with addons. The requirements are irrelevant to be honest because unless you plan to fly with everything turned down, you're going to need better than that by a long shot.We do know that it will run with DX9 (so you won't need Vista to run it) and that it's 32 bit... so at least that's a few things you can mark off. And I think I've read on here that it will better utilise dual core processors.

I wouldn't go with either of those CPUs and I'd wait till after it is released to upgrade. Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/tfbeta.jpg

>Do some reading in this forum, it has been discussed to death>(there is a search feature). I wouldn't go with either of>those CPUs and I'd wait till after it is released to upgrade.Did some searching and came up with nothing relevent. Why wouldn't you go with Opterons. They're the best consumer CPUs on the market right now. Intel's Conroe comes out next month but I'm betting it's expensive. Opterons overclock better than most so they offer the best bang for the buck. A lot of hardware enthusiasts are going with them now."The requirements are irrelevant to be honest because unless you plan to fly with everything turned down, you're going to need better than that by a long shot."Not really. It gives me an idea of where my current system lacks. I never buy a whole new system. That's too expensive. I just add to what I have. CPU and mobo is what concerns me right now as Socket A AthlonXPs don't cut it anymore.

Can I suggest something, hang fire with what you have, and instead of upgrading now in bits and pieces save up for a whole new PC so that when FSX finally is released and we know the specs you will be able to buy/build your top of the line FS machine. That's exactly what I'm doing now, mine is a 3 year old P4-3Ghz running XP Pro. When FSX comes out I will build a PC that is top class then, whatever the fastest stuff is that's out I'll put in it, and price should not be an issue as i'll have saved the money in the meantime. I'm already pretty much there as I have a grand saved toward it now.
