A thought, a dream, a hope...

I wonder why I've never asked this question before, and probably it's because only a handful of people would ever use this feature...My father was a Flight Engineer on 727's and 767's (Ansett Australia was one of the few airlines that flew 3 crew on the 767, thanks to Sir Peter Abels)... Anyway I digress...When my dad was prepping for the sim, he used to use a program he wrote to go through systems and keep up to date.I had always imagined him being able to run through his FE panels on both the 767 and 727 in FS...Wondering if there'd ever be any support in future versions of FS for aircraft systems so people can fly in FS as a Flight Engineer instead of as a pilot...I know it's a long shot, and not the primary focus of FS, but with the number of 3 crew aircraft still flying, it could be helpful for real simulator check preparation...Anyway, just a ramble...

I think some of the more detailed 3rd party aircraft have FE controls.

PSS Concorde is only experience I have of a flight engineers station and a virtual flight engineer.

I might need to make something ;) I do have the F1 727 and CaptainSim 727's and the Level D 76 (no FE panel tho). I did start making a 767-200 FE panel once back in FS98 I think it was... Ahh so much to do so little time...The whole FE thing is kinda out of date anyway, father is retired and now helping build and fly these babies... www.conroyaviation.com.auI was just curious more about having the aircraft systems available on board such as air conditioning, basically the behind the scenes stuff that the FE's would take care of...Not important though, not urgent... Maybe FS20 or something ;)

I operate on the idea that nothing is impossible... sometimes you just have to go further outside of the box than others. If it were on me to create such a thing, I'd start by investigating the idea of taking a wing view and adding in 2d panels, then create engineers "gauges" for those panels. Why dream of it and ask others to do it when you can build it yourself in a weekend? Besides, there isn't a one of us here who would trust any of the others to take over our own pet project and do it right! After all:((3D Artist + 2D Artist) * (Programmer + Developer)) = (Creative Control Freak) ;c)So there are two reasons that, if you want it done and done right, do it yourself! (smile)Scott / Vorlin

Hey Scott, I'm with you on that, I've already created a lot of stuff for FS, and back in FS98 I did the gauges/panel etc etc etc. Problem was the systems weren't modelled in the FS internal engine, so the knobs and dials didn't affect anything...A few more things can be done now, one day all the systems will come tho... It's okay I've been waiting for 20+ years for what's coming out in FSX, just considering some dreams for the future...It's not so much about the panel as it is about the panel interacting with the aircraft internal systems as per the real boeing sims ;)It'd be cool for my dad to teach me one day what he used to do up front of the aircraft :)Again, it's a pipe dream, maybe one day. For now the time isn't important. As for my original question it was really about the systems and not panels, without the systems the panels become eye candy switches that do nothing... :(
