Updating Content?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm on P3Dv4.4.

Since version v4.1 I have updated only the Client each time. I now want to upgrade to version 4.5 by updating the Client and Content.

P3Dv4.4 on my system is organized as follows:

P3Dv4.4.exe is located in E:\Program Files\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4. In this folder I also have a lot of aircraft addons like Milviz, PMDG, ORBX + some hand installed scenes like FSXatWarPack1 and so......

Most of my addons are in E:\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons but I also have a few that have defaulted to C:\Users\*********\Documents\Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

Will updating the Content compromise some of my addons or even my entire installation (which is currently working very well) due to the fact that there are 2 Prepar3D v4 Add-ons folders on disk C and E?

Thank you and Regards,

Richard

Updating the Content only will make the need of re-installing your textures addons, like your REX products, or probably ORBX´s FTX Global and HD Trees, in case you have them, and those addons you might want to be reinstalled in the same place you have already installed them, according to your drive selection.

Hi,

I finally took the plunge (Client+Content).

Fortunately I didn't get anything like that from what you let me see. Especially concerning ORBX, the reinstallations you told me about, are only to be done when Scenery is updated (which I hadn't planned to do). All my aircraft (regardless of location) are doing well.:gaul:

Maybe you thought I was doing a complete reinstallation...

Richard

Hi Richard:

After you make your Content update, check in FTX Central if your FTX Global and HD Trees are still installed (in case you have them). If they are, test your sim in an airport you know well and if everything looks fine, you don't need to touch anything else. Some other users have reported they had to reinstall FTX Global and/or HD Trees after a Content update. In my own case that was not necessary, but you know all the systems are not equal.

Hi Ed,

I confirm, FTX Global and HD Trees are still installed. For ORBX, after updating Client and Content, I launched FTX Central 3 and for security I launched a Migration. Everything was okay.

But you'r right all the systems are not equal...

Richard
