Why all the Secrecy?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering why so much secrecy surrounding a product that has little competition? Who decides when information is released? It's those men in black right? :(

I think its a little thing called Sales and Marketing. Release small pieces of info over time to create huge hype and hopefully sell a ton of product which in turn pays Taildragger and the crew with hopefully enough profit to fund FS11.Mark.

In my opin, there's not nearly as much secrecy today as there used to be with earlier versions. Team members on the forums, talking about the next ver? Unheard of! Or at least I don't remember it happening nearly to the extent it is today.Rhett

One other thing to consider is the features are not complete so the developers most likely do not want to release information that may not make the final cut as that tends to cause a bit of a stir, the old over promise under deliver whereas the opposite keeps everyone happy (hopefully).According to a thread a while back it seems they have begun reducing the list of desired features as time allotment and difficulty of implementation causes the feasibility of finalizing and testing some features impossible, allowing the final feature set to have the full concentration of the development and testing teams. As the release date approaches and the final version becomes, well finalized, I'm sure more information will become available.Ian.

I agree with that. If FS people were around too early in the dev cycle hinting about features that didn't make the final cut, how disappointed would everyone be? Any information given out by ACES personnel amounts to a promise to the end users so they need to be reasonably tight-lipped about it. Does anyone remember the beating that Flight1 took in the forums because of how late the ATR was released? Because they actually made public a tentative release date, people got really incensed when it didn't come out then and continued to be delayed.
