map request..

Hi,MS have gone to great effort to cover the world with the sim and in FS9 (I know no other) have given us this weird little map in the middle of it to enable us to get about in our virtual world. My hope, vain I'm sure, is that the mapping in FSX is enlargeable, shows safe heights, and ideally would be accessible from outside the sim to plan flights.Andy.

Yes,I hate the fact that the whole map window (and all the other windows) is stuck at 800x600, and then the map itself is this little box inside that. A lot of wasted space on my 1920 x 1200 screen. Please at least allow it to expand to fit the window. And I like the other suggestions you made. I don't even use the lessons, etc. because the window is just too small to read comfortably (text size is ok, just not enough information/page).Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Good news: the map is getting bigger.Bad news: probably still not big enough for you

Hi there ,Good news on the map front! My point about safe heights was that you can plan a route and you will get a height to fly at from the planner, but in a small ga airplane or DC-3, perhaps you cannot fly at the height required and there's no way (is there?) to plot a route through mountain passes at a height you can fly at as no heights are marked on the map.Phew, lotsa height in that sentence. What else? It'd be interesting to have a semi-transparent map overlay you could just access as you fly, like bringing up the gps and so on.Andy.:-wave

I don't mind the lower resolution (<1920 x 1200), I just don't understand why the window isn't allowed to stretch to fit the available resolution. I'm not knocking it, and I'm sure there is a good reason, I just don't understand technically why it doesn't do it now. Will FSX allow it to stretch?I have been using Dell Lattitude Laptops.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

<Alas, no. :( Unfortunately our UI technology has really outgrown its usefulness and, although servicable, really does need an overhaul that we could not afford this time 'round. We have improved a few things (which should be noticable and that I think you'll really like) but the underlying tech that relies on fixed size bitmaps (check them out in the uires folder) is too pervasive to modify without a total rewrite.

Thats ok we can live with the same map technology. Some other things are more important.

... and can we view it without pausing the flight? This would be a great improvement.Phil

Sure. Just press Shift+3. ;)
