PMDG 777-200 CTD after entering SID

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I am new here - apologies if I do something wrong.

I wanted to do a flight in the PMDG 777-200 yesterday from FACT to EGLL.  Everything loaded up perfectly and I have done my pre- flight.  Upon entering the data into the FMC, I have loaded the route from a file exported via PFPX 2.  It loaded the route up correctly and I have continued to program the rest of the FMC.  When I entered the SID and did a preview on what the SID would look like through the Plan mode and stepping through the legs page, FSX stopped working and CTD.

I went into event viewer and retrieved the following:

Faulting application name: fsx.exe, version: 10.0.61637.0, time stamp: 0x46fadb14

I use PFPX 2 for the flight planning

ActiveSky Next for weather

Scenery used was NMG Simulations Cape Town

Navigraph for the AIRAC and it is updated to 1908

My computer specs:

Intel Core I5 3.0GHz

8GB RAM

Geforce GTX650

Please help me find a solution - I have never experienced this problem before.

Thank you,

Chris Holmes

Based on the following link - https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/421815-pmdg_777xdll-ctd-again/ - some had ImagineSim and/or FlyTampa payware installed so it could be a scenery issue (see near the bottom of the topic as earlier discussions were way off and had nothing to do with the crash and showed no fixes).

The other possibility is running out of VAS (Virtual Address Space).  Microsoft Windows, 64 bit version gives you up to 4GB's of VAS per application.  If you have the 32 bit version of Windows, then Microsoft only gives you up to 3GB's of VAS by installing switches.  Further information on page 35 of the AVSIM CTD Guide.  I always recommend anyone running FSX or P3Dv3 and below, monitor the VAS using the FSUIPC module because you can run out of VAS fast if you have a very powerful computer system and you set your settings high (see page 17, AVSIM CTD Guide for setting up the FSUIPC to monitor your VAS.  The most critical part of the flight concerning VAS is near the destination.  This is when more resources are used during the flight as you descend and make your way to the destination airport.  If it is a payware add-on airport, your chances of running out VAS increase substantially.  A lot of things are happening.  I always see a major drop in VAS when on the approach phase and subsequent landing.  Almost every time I try to land at FlightBeam's KIAD (Wash Dulles), with ActiveSky real weather, my VAS goes below 500KB and I hear the FSUIPC program "dinging" to indicate I'm about to run out of memory.  Sometimes I land, sometimes not.  Trying to taxi to the gate is impossible so usually "warp" the aircraft to the gate.

If this is not the issue, then I would suggest following the guidance on page 10, AVSIM CTD Guide on how to fix almost any crash in FSX.
