January 15, 200620 yr Commercial Member As a developer of software that tries to simulate "people", I have some requests for FS X.1. People. I'd like to see animated people at the airport (Ramp Agents, Start Crews, etc). Pax walking to the plane would be great too. Most importantly I'd like an SDK to control these people.Of course an option would have to be available to turn them off if frame rates are an issue.2. A "Visible" FO in the cockpit. I'd like to see an animated FO in the VC.Most importantly, I'd like an SDK so I can control this FO (ie., move his arms and hands so I can simulate him flipping switches, etc)3. In my software, I can make my FO perform the takeoff(assuming still air), but I cannot make him track the runway or taxi centerline because the info just isn't available via any SDK that I know of.That said, I'd like to see an SDK that would allow me to program my virtual FO to track the taxi and runway centerline.4. I'd like to be able to use MP3's in Gauge files, not just .wav type sound files.5. On a non related note, I understand the issue with sloped runways and why MS cannot incorporate them because MS cannot send survey teams to every airport under the sun. However, would it be possible to give scenery developers the ability to create "micro-mesh" or something so they can create sloped runways (or hills, mounds, ditches, etc) at the airport? That be my list! All the best,Bryan B. January 15, 200620 yr Might be nice eyecandy but remember this is a flight simulator, not a people simulator.I can only imagine the massive trouble Microsoft would get into if they included these things and someone found out they didn't put in the correct percentages of every possible racial faction in the US (or any other country). They'd be dragged into court for years and years on charges of racial discrimination. And if the inclusion had any impact at all on performance or even gave the hint that someone's favourite feature hadn't made it there'd be #### to pay all over the 'net because "Microsoft thinks eyecandy is more important than functionality" (and I'd actually have to agree, something I don't do often when it comes to such complaints).
January 15, 200620 yr Bryan, I strongly agree about having people in FSX. I actually feel FS9 is a bit sterile precisely because there are no people. The human element is an important part of flight. In fact without people there would never have been any flight in the first place! Therefore a true flight simulator should have people, among other things.... Best regards, Chris
January 15, 200620 yr Commercial Member Well, as they say, you're not flying airplanes, you're flying people :-)Interesting concept about being litigated for racial discrimination if they didn't include all the right groups, but I doubt that'd get very far in court. Besides, not many people have the resources needed to take on Microsoft's Legal Department and win. Cheers,Bryan B. York FS2Crew Web Site / FS2Crew Facebook Page / FS2Crew Discord
January 16, 200620 yr Good ideas Bryan. Exactly my thought. Flight INCLUDES people. Have the framework for the incorporation of people traffic. Even if they provide that framework for only a couple of airports 3rd party developers could expand the concept. It's all about immersion. We're moving beyond the notion "it's only a flight simulator" to 'it's a flight simulator environment' which is the environment of reality not sterile flying in a vacuum.
