Adding a gauge to a VC panel?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Cannot really find the answer to this .....

I want to take part in the London to Australia Rally over at Bluegrass Airlines.  I have purchased the Alabeo Cessna 310R II aircraft for the event and now for timing purposes, I want to place Tom Goodrick's FTimer gauge onto the main panel of the Cessna 310 VC.   I have tried many ways to insert the gauge line into the panel.cfg but it just will not display!   If I place it under WINDOW.00, it does not show.  If I place it under the Vcockpit01 -

[Vcockpit01]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=512,512
visible=0
pixel_size=512,512
texture=$Panel_1

gauge00=GPS530_3D_CC310R!GPS_530_3D,    0,  0, 512, 372
gauge01=C310RIIALA!ToggleCAR530,                 64,0, 256, 32
gauge02=Digital!FTime,                                         72, 380

It does not show.   If, however, I change the gauge number thus -

gauge59=Digital!FTime,                                     72, 380

It shows as two gauge parts, but they are very small and are right on top of the radio stack!

I use FSX-SE running Windows 10 64-bit at a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440.

Can anyone suggest a way for me to do this?   I keep reading how it is not possible to add a gauge to a VC panel, but I am hoping to do this.   I used to do it back in my FS2004 days.   The only other possibility is to use a Time to Decimal calculator for the timings.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

Regards,

Lee

You can not just "add" a gauge to the VC.  If you want that gauge in your VC, it will have to replace a gauge that is currently in the VC.  Only way.

Another possibility is to add it to a popup window and bring it up with a keyboard combo.

Ed Wilson is right about adding gauges to the 3D virtual cockpit.  You have to replace an existing gauge in a 3D panel. Unfortunately, the Alabeo C310 like most of the newer payware aircraft have the 3D gauge built into the 3D panel. Sometimes it is just the graphic and there is still a gauge file without a main background.bmp associated with it or the whole gauge is designed into the aircraft model.  As Bob Scott mentioned, you will have to make a 2D popup with the specific gauge. It looks like you are familiar with panel.cfg files and notepad to edit them.  You will have to add a 2D pop-up.

The Following mods should work to your panel.cfg file, let me know if they do not with a copy of your panel.cfg file.

  You will have to add the [Window06] text below all the info for [Window05].  If you have added other 2D pop-ups you will have to change the window numbers

[Window Titles]
Window00=GPS 530
Window01=AUTOPILOT
Window02=WINDOW MANAGER
Window03=INFO
Window04=ENGINE SETUP
Window05=KNOB INFO
Window06=FLIGHT TIMER

//--------------------------------------------------------
[Window06]
Background_color=0,0,0
size_mm=64,48
window_size_ratio=1.000
position=0
visible=0
ident=70
window_size= 0.500, 0.500
window_pos= 0.000, 0.000

gauge00=Digital!FTime,  0,0,64,48

I am not sure what your experience level is with panel.cfg files and gauges are and do apologise if I have over simplified this.

Specs: black box thingy with spinning fans, lights and a bunch of wires that go to screens with pretty colours and a keyboard with many keys. The black box thingy also has a push button activated coffee cup holder.
