September 16, 20196 yr Hi, After multiple crashes of P3d, which has been a rarity since I switched from FSX a few months ago, I went on this site and viewed the CTD Guide. After identifying the faulting module name in Microsoft Event Viewer after each crash as, "Kernelbase.dll," I looked at that section of the guide. Per the steps listed, I tried the sfc/scannow method. Upon reviewing the results in the CBS text file created by Windows when the scan is complete, the only error it found and fixed was a corrupt DLL. After investigating the name of the file in question, I found that the mscormc.dll file located in the Net Framework folder is the problem. Can someone please explain how that file became corrupt in the first place, and how I can prevent it for doing it again? Any help you can provide is appreciated. September 16, 20196 yr It is a Windows system file. Windows system files get corrupted without explanation. The kernelbase.dll has something to do with virtual system memory too. You probably shutdown your system too soon one day with other things running in the background or it shutdown because of electricity to the computer was suddenly shut off. You were lucky to fix your problem. The kernelbase.dll is one of those crashes that has no solution other than what you discovered. Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! September 17, 20196 yr Author Thanks, Jim! After looking at the CTD guide here, it seemed like pinpointing that particular faulting module is hard to do. That's why I asked here at the forum to see if anyone else has had this issue. I did have a power outage a few weeks ago, so that could've caused the problem. If I understand correctly, just because a program isn't open on the bottom of the screen doesn't mean that it's all the way closed. September 17, 20196 yr Windows 7/10 system files are always there to run when needed to run your application and are subject to being corrupted. Kernelbase.dll is just one of them. Whenever I have a crash or my system freezes up while using P3D, the System File Checker is the first thing I run. Almost 99.9% of the time there are no corrupted files but it is always good to check as it is a simple fix. The kernelbase.dll system module is one of the most frustrating faulting modules ever known to mankind as there are many reasons for this crash. I have seen it just after shutting down P3D abnormally. For instance, I'll have P3D running and then shutdown Windows to meet an appointment. I run AppCrashView occasionally too and will see the module caused a crash but it really didn't or, at least, it did not affect one of my P3D Flight sessions. This is one of the reasons why I have a method to fix almost every crash/freeze in the AVSIM CTD Guide (around page 10). One must investigate as what happens on your computer as it may not happen on other computer setups. Welcome to the computing world!
