Did you mean a Maximus IX? The nVME M2 SSDs are much (~17x) faster than SATA III devices (there are also M2 SATA SSDs as well, and those are electrically identical to the 2.5-inch SSDs). Boot times are pretty snappy, but the practical difference in speed in normal home/gaming use is not so much so that it alone justifies the extra cost. I used M2 drives in my portable build because of the physical build considerations, having the drives mounted securely under a plate right on the motherboard on a computer that gets bounced around during travel. The extra expense was worth it to me there because it eliminates a fair bit of cabling and by using only M2 drives I was able to completely remove the drive bay from my compact LAN box case, freeing up some needed room. The two XI Hero M2 slots allow 2242, 2260, or 2280 form-factor cards in the #1 slot--you move the mounting screw to the appropriate threaded nutplate to change sizes, and the #2 slot will accomodate all of those or also an extended-length 22110 card. The digits after the "22" denote the card length...2242 is a 42mm card, and 2280 (the most common size) is a 80mm long card. The slots are both preconfigured for the 2280 cards. If you have the IX and not the XI, then this may or may not apply. September 21, 20196 yr Author Yes you are quite right it is a Maximus IX hero, sorry I'm at this moment taking a medicine that is doing my bean and simply didn't want to purchase the wrong module, I have contacted ASUS who didn't/ couldn't advise me their list has not been updated recently! oh well I will purchase a normal Samsung SSD many thanks for your reply Peter
