Mixed fleet simmer, how do you handle them all?

Featured Replies

In the sim world, there isn't much barrier to keep us trying out such many types of aircrafts available, unlike the real world.  At least there is no regulation problem, not that much financial problem (still big one for a individual), no opreational issue, and you don't need to know the system as deep as a type rated pilot have to be....

I think there are many people flying both study level Boeings and Airbuses

But still, fly several different type mixed in the same period of time is chanllanging, That's why it's not often in the real world.

Cross Crew Qualification with Airbus it easy, I heard that 350 and 380 is much different from 320-340 things, but not really know. (I think there is no good sim for 380, and the XP's 350 I havn't tried)

The Boeings are more diversed, but still, the inner philosophy is same, apart from some annoing tiny habit like the LNAV/VNAV button difference on 737, HDG SEL button difference on 737.... Yeah, for all modern Boeing, the 737 is the b**tard (No,717 is a maddog)....I still feel more nature to do the overhead flow scan with the lights panel skiped in the middle and putted back to the end on 757-787, thanks to 737...

And yes, the scan flow thing is the biggist problem for me when driving the buses. Upside down on the overhead, Then a U shap in the middle, and stright down to the aft center, before turning back to the glareshield and main panel.... that dosen't seems logic to me with Up-Down Left-Right Boeing logic in mind....

Also timming, the buses list a lot of thing to do when taxing, while Boeing tell me get them all ready before taxi and only check the flaps before take off (except the word not allowed....actually you only need to check trim on 737 Classic because you need full down trim for de-ice on that type, not needed for NG), Personally I love the idea of sterile taxi.

Before I had a deep study with Airbus, I did fly it the "Boeing way" that somewhat works, But with deeper study to it's system, I can accept it's logic and leave with it's SOP, while still feel a little awkward.

Now the other things I still had flown within a few months is E170/190, MD82, and MD11, For MD11, I didn't put much effors into it, and because it's too automated, the flow doesn't seems matter much...But it's Autopilot is something I need some trial and error every time I get into it's cockpit like maybe every 1 or 2 month.

Ejet also very automated, and not simulated very deep with Feelthere one, I just fly it the Boeing way, After some study with it's procedure from real plane manual, I acctually came up with my own SOP based on Boeing philosophy along with the Checklist:

Note: the Enroute and Vacated checklist Is also added to my own Boeing checklists, because with only one crew, it's really easy to froget some steps....

As you can guess, MD82 is another b**tard for me, systemwise not well automated (below 737 level IMO), it's SOP flow is not that hard, but come with a VEEERRRRYYYYY LOOOONNNGGGG normal checklist...So, since it's technically a Boeing now, why don't fly it the Boeing way?

At least that's my idea of "Boeing Way" ,Also I print them in different colors so it's easier to get the correct one.

Ah, I also fly Cessnas and other SEPs, since they don't require a type rating, I guess that's easy part for everyone...

I believe I still able to fly some aircraft in my FS9 just from airprort A to B even after few months without doing so, like the E145, RJs(Maybe not the old Bae146 variant), Kingair B200(which I also made a boeing style NCL for it), and the F**ing Tu154M, Yeah, I still can't believe I can fly the aircraft from cold and dark without knowing the letters on it's panel...some one taught me via Teamspeak and IMS 10 years ago.... I know I'm doing it very superficial and very very wrong, But hey, it works with PT's Tu154M...

Speaking about Tu154, I think I can still fly DF727, RFP742 and TM732, the 732 really isn't that different with 737NG so all ok, if you dig deep, Those old Boeings are really linked to the modern one, I do love that feeling, I do wanna try B707 and Concorde, but there seems no a good 64bit version for them for now, Aerosoft DC8 is on my scope, but Aerosoft is not a very convincing title for me, and I'm not that deeply wanted to study a Douglas as I'm not very familiar with MD yet.

As for helicopters, DODOSIM 206 seems the only reason I still keep my FSX (apart from it's just hanging in my steam library). I can go thought it from Cold and Dark, and fly it without crash every minute, But I don't know much about Helicopter flight dynamics as fixed wing, so it's just that... I do enjoy transport my friends with Helo in ArmA3 with much better fashion than keyborad player though....

So, that's basicly my approach to mixed fleet: Stick with Boeing, accept the Airbus, and turn everything else that looks like into Boeing to fly with....

What about you, do you fly multiple types? Do you stick with all it's real life SOP, or just fly it the way you feel like?
