September 18, 200619 yr Sadly I'm still using a G-Force FX 5200, 128 mb card. I hope "Santa" will bring me a better card for Christmas - I wonder what he would suggest? Also, until then, those of you who use this card what have you found to be the most stable driver to use? Thanks for your input.AMD Athlon 2.0 CPU1 GB memoryASUS A7V8X-XWIN XP, 2 SP
September 19, 200619 yr Sadly? Hmmm, that's the card I have, and it's never given me too much trouble.
September 19, 200619 yr Building a new system I found some really good prices on OEM cards through NEWEGG.COM, I bought a later model ATI card for 100 bucks with 512 Ram, that will get me by until the DX 10 cards come out.
September 19, 200619 yr Any recent card would be better than the FX5200. Sticking with Nvidia should give you a smoother upgrade with respect to drivers. I suppose your card uses AGP, that narrows down possibillities.-
September 19, 200619 yr I'm using an FX5200 (ASUS V9520) on this AMD Athlon XP 2800+ on an ASUS A7N8X w/1Gb RAM. It's been my FS9 machine for the past year or so.I'm a Beta tester and I had to install FSX on this machine cuz the fan failed on the 6800GT PCIe card in my new AMD 64 4000+ machine. It runs but I gotta keep the sliders well down but it allowed me to finish the testing cycle.I like the 6800GT. Good performer with FSX and decently priced. I have to qualify that because CPU speed also plays a big part in FSX peformance, just as it is in any FS version. I'm an nVidia devotee after unsatisfactory experiences with others in the past so I can't comment on ATI stuff. There were quite a few Beta testers using them.I guess it comes down to whatever Santa's budget will allow. I'd see what you can find in the way of reviews on the internet. Tom's Hardware is a good place but I'm sure a google search turn up some good stuff to help you decide. There's too many choices, ain't there?Cal
September 19, 200619 yr Author I'm using the G-Force 5200 (512Mb ram) also with the 8185 driver. I've had no problem with the card using this driver although I did have when I tried to update to the latest driver(just dropped back to this one). Like you, I've been thinking about upgrading to a newer card but I get conflicting advice about what card will fit my Dell Dimension 8300 computer and not overheat. I'd really like to stick with an Invidia card if possible, so if anyone out there has a suggestion I'd be truly greatful. Bill
