I am at a loss as to what could be causing this

Featured Replies

I have been flying FS9 with zero problems for some time now. In te last few days I have started getting these flashes in the sky. I managed to use fraps and catch one on video. I then took a screen capture of the video. What could be causing these things? They even create shadows on the ground. I hope you guys can help me with this.Thankshttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/156790.jpg

Such artefacts can sometimes be caused by an overheating video card. Check that the ventilation at the rear of the PC is clear, and also check the video card itself to ake sure the fan is running and that there isn't any large amounts of dust around the card.Note that this mightn't be the sole cause of the issue you have, but it certainly was in my case.

Thanks for the reply Mark. I cleaned my computer out yesterday and got all the dust out from around the video card too. I think I might need to move my computer to a cooler spot in the room.

You got one... and it looks like the same thing on my end!! :( Wow, I wonder what this is. My computer is cleaned weekly, and I have my place at a comfortable 73 degrees at all times, so I doubt it's overheating on my end. Hmmmm, help from anyone would be great :)Tim

What type of videocard do you have and which drivers do you use. I had an NVidia card a few months back and some older drivers gave me similar problems.

Looks like tearing or possibly overheating to me. Turn on vsync in your drivers and see if that fixes the problem. 7900gt cards are known for causing issues like this so if you're using a 7900gt then I'd say that your card might be about to croak. Looks like tearing to me though which could be minimized or solved by using vsync.

DONT LAUGH - JUST TRY THISIn FS9 Go to SETTINGS/DISPLAY/HARDWARE AND REMOVE THE TICKS FROM'RENDER TO TEXTURE' AND 'TRANSFORM & lIGHTING' AND BINGO THAT TEXTURE MESS MAY DISAPPEARBadbiggles

Thanks for the replies you guys. I am using a Radeon 9800XT video card. I am using the latest drivers for this card. I can remember if it did this before or after I installed the drivers though.

i had this same issue on some of my machines running ATI cards, plus it only happens on certain aircrafts or sceneries - it's definitely not due to over-heating, because i can re-create this problem using said planes...but not in others. I believe some of the models have a tiny seam or texture problem (such as z-buffering or strange intersecting geometry). Nvidia card drivers seem to bypass this (or in combination with DirectX9), but ATI cards (with certain driver and settings), seem to go crazy and draw random triangles on the screen. It can also be from ATI's Adoptive AA. You probably upgraded your driver, or ticked AAA on. Try rollin' back the driver.-feng
