October 6, 200619 yr Just wanted to share what I've found after only about 1 hour of tweaking. This is using the latest Demo2 build. We've read that the Demo2 and final FSX releases are close in performance.I'm seeing on average 25 FPS. At times, it hits close to 40 FPS, and in the denser areas, it goes down to about 14 FPS (for just a second or two). In the most dense (Autogen) areas, it averages around 18 FPS. Regardless, the flight is smooth.Bottom line (for my PC) - Light Bloom, Land & Sea Traffic, Water Effects are the items that most impact frame rates. Autogen (surprising enough) does not impact as much. As someone posted here, setting FPS to Unlimited actually increased my overall FPS (with limited stutters). I was thinking a smoother flight would be gained with FPS set to 25/30 FPS. Making it Unlimited has helped. Thanks to the poster of this info!My .cfg file is contained below. While the FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION entry was added manually, I don't think this has any affect until the retail version is available. All settings/sliders are set to the MAX (far right) with the exception of these:Display - 1024x768Trilinear (no Anti Alias checked)NO - Light BloomWater Effects - Low 2.x (Strange, for me, the Low 2.x and High 1.x showed about the same FPS, but the 2.x looks better)AutoGen - DenseCloud Draw - 60 miles (the defaults used in the form)Land & Sea - Road and Leisure Boats = 30%, Ships & Ferries = 100%My PC:Dell Dimension 8400 (2 years old)Pentium 4, 3.4GHZ3GB RAMNvidia GeForce 680019" LCD MonitorWindows XP SP2+++++My .cfg file[GRAPHICS]TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024NUM_LIGHTS=8AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=1AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1LANDING_LIGHTS=1AC_SELF_SHADOW=1EFFECTS_QUALITY=2GROUND_SHADOWS=0[sCENERY]LENSFLARE=1DAWN_DUSK_SMOOTHING=1IMAGE_COMPLEXITY=5[DISPLAY]BLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=40UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0[PANELS]QUICKTIPS=1PANEL_OPACITY=100[TERRAIN]LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=100MESH_RESOLUTION=25TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29AUTOGEN_DENSITY=3DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=4[WEATHER]CLOUD_DRAW_DISTANCE=3DETAILED_CLOUDS=1CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8THERMAL_VISUALS=1DownloadWindsAloft=0DisableTurbulence=0[TrafficManager]AirlineDensity=100GADensity=100FreewayDensity=30ShipsAndFerriesDensity=100LeisureBoatsDensity=30IFROnly=0AIRPORT_SCENERY_DENSITY=5[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.10JerryG
October 6, 200619 yr Thanks for the tips Jerry.I just wish MS could have optimized their clutter of sloppy code before shipping this halfed baked turkey. It seems more time than ever is going to be spent adjusting settings than actually flying.
October 6, 200619 yr That would make 2 turkeys in a row. I've spent many hours tweaking FS9 to run on my machines.Ian.
