October 10, 200619 yr Now that the hubbub over Best Buy and some Walmarts has died down, is there any news about other US stores releasing early? Any chance I'll be able to buy it before the 17th?

October 10, 200619 yr Hey there,I'm In Tucson, AZ. And I bought my Deluxe ver at Walmart yesterday afternoon. And oddly enough, it was priced at $49.95. Which was a surprise since the online stores are advertising it for $69. I did however run into a snag on the install. It's saying "not a win32 application" when I put the disk in. HMMM, bad copy?Good luck,Ken

October 11, 200619 yr Well, about the checkout... I left some info out of what happened when I got it. I went to the checkout, and she tried to get it scanned, but it wasn't, of course, in their system yet, and kept coming up with "Item not regonized" message on the register. So, I told her that I could go back and get another copy and try it, but she told me not to worry, and hand type it in as a "Computer software" item, and asked if I remembered the price. Ok. The sticker on the shelf said $49.95. So, like the dumb butt I am, I told her what it said, knowing I still was getting a good deal, but it didn't hit me till I got into the car that I could have told her anything reasonable, and she would've put it on there. Later, today, a friend went in there to get his. There were still two more copies of the Deluxe version sitting there, but when he took it to the checkout, the scan said "Do not Sell". So I think they got the word and put the hold on it, just didn't take them off the shelf. An update to my install problem. I worked hard all afternoon, and after some research, found all I had to do was a clean reboot with nothing running in they startup from the msconfig file. I got her up and running and had only time to do one around the pattern at Scottsdale, AZ. with the Caravan. I love the new look. and had all the sliders up to just a notch below the highest, and got around 12 FPS while flying. Not as bad as I thought. I'm still running an old AMD Athlon XP 3200 with 1gig dual channel PC3200 for mem. Geforce 5600.I would say, if you can find it, get it. It's worth the move.Good luck, KenEJA2110SWA2110

The sticker on >the shelf said $49.95.Are you sure ???.....let me ask you something is there an Item number(SKU#) on your receiept?????....I have tried three walmarts in two states and so far no one including in one store the person who works in the department that enters pricing info has been able to do any system override..(that is I told them I drove 70 miles).....As of Friday PM WMHQ issued an e-mail to all its stores to pull the shelves and they put a lock on the registers so they wont ring up the sale of this product.....So far I think this release has been the most confussing and the biggest MS mess YET.......HECK why is it that Harry Potters PUB company can get it right and have full compliance and impose fines to those who violate their compliance agreements...Will MS do sales Audits and impose fines to those who sold early....I doubt it...
October 11, 200619 yr Believe me I have! Unfortunately, I live about 60 miles away, and its pretty hard on the phone to get a knowledgeable answer. Sometimes you can get them to look in their computer, but they just return the "official release date is the 17th".I'm happy for those that are getting it earlier than the 17th, but considering that Canada and Brazil have had a full release, and it looks like Europe is the 13th, it baffles me why they don't change the US release date?!
October 11, 200619 yr Commercial Member Ken,Which Walmart here was that? I checked most of them in the city and none even had it out for sale... Apparently Best Buy on Broadway sold them for a short period of time last Saturday before pulling them, but this is the first I've heard of another store besides BB selling it here. October 11, 200619 yr Hi, I bought the standard at walmart last Friday since thats all they had, will get deluxe when I find it. Mine came up as do not sell also, but clerk was smart and knew how to manually input the price and description into the computer. Was up there today and went to see if they had the deluxe and they had pulled them off the shelf, sure enough. Glad I got the action when I did though.Matt
October 11, 200619 yr Dont say your running an old system, mine is very similar. Considering I've put alot of money into it (believe it or not), thinking about starting over with a new system puts me, and my bank, in tears. Chase Barnett
October 12, 200619 yr Hi all,As has become my habit now that FSX has begun trickling out from a few select stores, about twice a week now I make a few calls to see if anyone in the Memphis area has it.Today I called Best Buy again. I tried to disguise my voice as I fear they may recognize me from my pevious calls and tell me to stop harassing them. After going thru the voicemail system -- I pretty much know it by heart -- I got a person on the line. I tried to sound casual. "Um, do you have Flight Simulator X in stock?"Without even needing to check his computer, the voice on the other end said, "That won't be on sale until the 17th.""Okay, thanks". Scratch Best Buy off my list. They're obviously wise by now. Attempt #2. I dialed Comp USA. When they finally picked up, I asked, "Do you have Flight Simulator X on sale?""What is that?" she asked."It's a computer game. For the PC." (I figured it was clearly pointless in engaging her in the details of the game vs. simulator debate.)"Just a minute, I'll check my computer." About 30 seconds later she came back on the line. "Hello? Yes, we have it.""You do?" I tried to countain my surprise. "Is that the Deluxe version?"She paused for a moment. "It doesn't say which version. But would you like me to hold a copy for you?" Gee I thought, this gal just may be on the ball. Then she added, "The price is $19.95.""I think that's the BOOK, not the software." I tried to hide my aggravation. She was, after all, trying to be helpful. "Oh yeah, you're right. No I'm sorry, that's the only thing we have right now with Flight Simulator X on it."Attempt #3. I picked one more place at random and dialed. "Do you have Flight Simulator X?" By this time to my shame I probably sounded like a whining six-year-old child."Did you want Standard or Deluxe? We have both."I snapped out of my mood. Incredulous, I tried to contain the quiver in my voice. "Deluxe! From Microsoft??" I blabbered."Yes, the Deluxe is $69.95.""My name is Rick! Can you hold me a copy? I'll be there in 30 minutes!""Sure" she said casually."Oh BLESS YOU, dear lady, bless you!" I wept with joy. And now fellow simmers, I hold in my quivering hands the DVDs which I am about to install on my machine. I will end this missive now as I mutter to myself, "It's only a hobby....it's only a hobby..."And thank you, Babbages Software at Hickory Ridge Mall in Memphis. -Rick :)----------- My System -----------P4 @ 2.53 GHz / 1GB RAM / NVIDIA GeForce 6800XT, 256MB / Windows XP Home

October 12, 200619 yr i called my local walmart 2 days ago. they said they still had 4 copies of fs10 for $49.95 each. i asked if they'd hold me a copy for 15 minutes. they said yes.i hopped on my harley and got to walmart in less than 10 minutes.i made my way to the electronics section and the saleslady had indeed held me a copy. when she tried to check me out it would not scan.she got an assistant manager to come over and helphe finally told her that ms had changed the release date and that they could not sell any more copies until then.the sales lady told me she'd sold several copies that dayand was sorry that i'd made the trip down there for nothing.i rode home and (later that night) was telling a friend about my wasted trip.he said he'd downloaded the deluxe version (almost 10 gigs)the night before.piracy is wrong, we all know that, but microsoft is not making the problem any better with their weird release policies.otter5555
