[In Progress] Adding to groups

Featured Replies

Hi All

Firstly thanks for a great add on, easy to use 😀 except... I’m having trouble adding to groups, obviously something I’ve missed as I can’t find anything on the forum. I use AIG OCI and when I update airlines it downloads new repaints. I then rescan and the new repaints appear in the default group but when I select them to move to a group and press the right arrow nothing happens... I can obviously solve this by deleting the group initially and redo the whole thing but I’m sure there must be a better way that I’ve missed.

Hope all that makes sense and thanks in advance for any help

Kind regards

Hi G,

Can you tell me how are you creating your groups? Is it per model type? IE B767, etc?

If you show me screenshots and the steps to replicate the problem it would be very useful.

Hi Simbol

As far as I can tell I’m following the steps as per your video tutorial 😊 I’ve created four groups, Airbus (318, 19, 20 and 21), Airbus heavy, Boeing ( 737) and Boeing heavy.

I’ll try and describe the process, not at the computer right now so can’t do screenshots.

1 in expert mode set the various parameters and save

2 click create groups and select all the relevant aircraft from the left list and move them to the right by clicking the arrow. Name the group and save changes. Back to the previous screen, select the group and import the saved settings and click apply changes.

All that seems to work fine, it’s just when I want to add aircraft to that group I have problems. I select the group and click modify group. That takes me to the split screen with default on the left and my group on the right. When I select the aircraft on the left screen and click the move arrow, nothing happens. I can move aircraft from right to left (ie out of the group) but not the other way

Bet that’s clear as mud! 😀

Thanks for your help

Regards

Ok I think this is a bug, in my mind when you get a new repaint of a new AI Model and you click re-scan it should automatically add it to your groups since they share the same Base .MDL file.

Please give me some time to get this sorted for you. This should be fixed on the next update of AI Lights Reborn.

Thanks Simbol, no worries, sort at your convenience 😎

Just a quick additional question. If one moves just one repaint from the default group into another group and set the parameters for it, does that affect all repaints for that model, irrespective of whether the repaints are in the group or not? For example in my FAIB B 737-400 aircraft.cfg file there are 57 repaints. Is it necessary to move all of them into a group or can I just move one of them?

Hope that makes sense 🙄

When you move 1 of them the Software will detect they share the same base Model or Aircraft.cfg and add all of the repaints automatically for you.

For example let's say you organised the 747-400 aircraft.cfg as follow:

 GE Variant AAL

 RR Variant DAL

 GE Variant UAL

 GE Variant.OTHER

Under such circumstances the GE variant will have a different .MDL than the RR Variant, however the [lights] sections is the same for all of them since both variants are using the same Aircraft.cfg file. Also 747-400 AAL, DAL, UAL and OTHER share the same [lights] configuration.

Now you have an 747-800 Aircraft.cfg as follow:

GE Variant AAL

RR Variant DAL

GE Variant UAL

GE Variant. OTHER.

Same thing here the GE variant will have a different .MDL than the RR Variant, however the [lights] sections is the same for all of them since both variants are using the same Aircraft.cfg file. Also 747-800 AAL, DAL, UAL and OTHER share the same [lights] configuration.

Now if you are creating a GROUP of BOEING 747 and you select the 747-GE AAL, AI Lights Reborn will move to the group: 747-400 AAL, DAL, UAL and OTHER because they all SHARE the same light configuration and they cannot be separated.

Similarly when you select a 747-800 RR DAL to add it to a Group, AI Lights Reborn will move to the group: 747-800 AAL, DAL, UAL and OTHER because they all SHARE the same light configuration and they cannot be separated.

After a GROUP is created and you set your lights settings for such group, then all the repaints will inherit the settings together. So if you change the size of beacons, intensity of strobes, texture set, etc. it affects all repaints and models inside that group.

Hope this helps you to understand it better.

Simbol

Thanks for the explanation Simbol, much appreciated. Also explains why one can’t form groups per airline as you pointed out in another thread.

Look forward to your further endeavours

I discussed your issue with Gerald (Beta tester) as he is my expert tester on Groups and we will implement a couple of improvements for the groups with the next AILRP Update.

I will leave this ticket open until then.

Hi Simbol

Just updated to the new version but I still seem unable to modify groups as described earlier.

Is it me or is it still a work in progress?

Many thanks

Kind regards

Hi Gandalf it is still WIP.

The pandemic situation has taken a big tool on my private life.

Basically I am swamped in work with shifts over 18 hours a day without any breaks enabling thousands of users to be able to work remotely from their homes across 12 different countries.

I work as a corporate network security and network administrator for an international firm and without me putting this effort lots of people would be out of pay, so I have been working like mad on this for the last 3 weeks in the hope to keep many families fed.

Things should get back to normal in a couple of weeks and I will revisit this topic.

Thanks for the reply Simbol, absolutely no problem whatsoever, as you rightly say this is wayyy down the list of priorities!

Keep safe

Alan
