October 12, 200619 yr Yesterday I got the message that my pre-ordered copy of FSX Deluxe was arrived at my local retailer (I am living in the Netherlands, official release date FSX is october 13).Since this message I am searching for answers on the question: should I buy now (with a rebate of 8 euro's, official price is some 69 euro's) or wait a while. Several questions are not answered yet, and I am not even talking about the frame rates issues. But - will my beloved Realair planes (SF260, Scout) be able to fly in FSX, when, and to what costs?- what about Misty Fjords? My Reality XP gauges?? PMDG 737 and 1900D??- what about all this terrific airports in Italy from ISD?Strange thing is that the third party developers are not offering any information here, I searched their sites and found no mention of FSX issues. Business as usual. Am I looking the wrong direction here? Weren't the third parties closely involved in the development of FSX? Should the answer to my initial question be: buy FSX and experiment with it but fly in your old FS9? But is there any risk that the two interfere with eachother (as some posters said?). And then I am not even sure how difficult it will be to reinstall FSX if it turns out that I have to renovate my PC or even buy a faster one! Looking forward to your input.HerriePentium 4, 3.2 MHZ, 1 GB Ram, Geforce 5900XT
October 12, 200619 yr Well, the RealAir Spitfire works in FSX. Some details are missing though, so it will need patching. I'd expect a similar situation with other FS9 planes, most will work but some will have problems. I've emailed RAS asking if they intend to release a patch or new version for FSX but had no answer. Obviously we will need the help of the designer in each case to get every component of complex planes to work in FSX. The Aeroworx B200 would be a real challenge, I'm sure!Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
October 12, 200619 yr Author We know the PMDG 737 won't work and won't be patched (a new version for FSX is being developed). I'm not sure about any of the others you've listed. And you're right about the developers being a little cautious. But, I think that's for good reason given changes in FSX and the performance issues we've seen to-date. There is very little, if any, room for additional CPU load. For example, I can't imagine ever running the PMDG 747 on FSX in it's present state. But time will tell... I have FSX mainly just to play-around-with and experiment for now. It's loaded on the same physical HDD as FS9 and there are no problems with the two interfering with each other. So, if it were me, I'd buy it and enjoy what it has to offer.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. October 12, 200619 yr Another very important fact is that you have a real hard time in getting more than 15 fps with only default stuff with low settings on a fairly high end computer. Just imagine if you also install addons !! :-lol :-hahhttp://www.scandicair.com/images/sa_banner.gifFSX..:-hmmm...nah.. October 12, 200619 yr Herrie, go for it. Heaven forbid you do get decent performance and actually have fun with it.Regards, MichaelKDFW Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe nForce4 SLI-x16 / AMD Best, Michael KDFW
October 12, 200619 yr OK guys, thanks for the input. I bought FSX this afternoon and installed the programme tonight. No problems whatsoever, it just took so much time that I could watch a movie in between. First thing I did was turn the atogen sliders down. My first flight in a Cessna 172 (from Eelde in the north of my province) went like a charm with framerates from 15-20. Maybe the autumn colors looked a bit exaggerated (a bit like a natural reserve in Kenya without the elephants) but I had a good time. Another try from Schiphol was not very succesful. For some reason panning in the cockpit had a terrible delay. Framerates were OK though. I shut everything down, tomorrow is another day. I will tame this programme, whatever time it costs. It is worth it.Herrie
October 12, 200619 yr "We know the PMDG 737 won't work and won't be patched (a new version for FSX is being developed)" The last I heard they were making a patch. So now your saying they're not. If they don't, do we owners of the FS9 version get some reduced rate ? I know here come the flames again, but I have well over $1000 USD invested in FS9 addon payware from several devs. I'd like to know what's going to be patched and what some of the costs are going to be. Now before the flames start, look inside your own FS9 addons and see if your not in the same boat (plane) as me. Dan
October 12, 200619 yr I can understand why some of you guy's may want to stay with FS9 if I had a $1000 in it I would stay with it also.I myself have just a few payware addons I put most of my money into joysticks and rudders yokes stuff like that. So to me moving on to FSXwill not be hard but FS9 Golden Wings and my FS9 Voz version will stay on my hard drive also. I view each version of FS that comes along as a stepping stone for many of the freeware makers to better their products so they can move up to payware. That can make everybody happy with better products.Glad your liking FSX Herrie
October 13, 200619 yr Author The patch is for the 747, not the 737. I have no idea of the pricing but I'd be surprised of there were any discount. The current 737 is getting a bit old now and it's time to retire it anyway. The new model should have all the current bells-and-whistles.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
