March 6, 20206 yr Hi, I have an issue with aircraft north not matching map north. There is a discrepancy of about 10 deg. A 360deg aircraft track shows as 10 deg on the map display. I'm using FSX and the 'open street map' type. This is not a show stopper but I'm sure there must be a simple solution. I have had a trawl through various other posts and FAQs but haven't seen this mentioned. Thanks in advance.
March 6, 20206 yr You have a screenshot and/or coordinates? This discrepancy can happen in the spherical/globe view especially near the poles. Known problem. Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
March 7, 20206 yr Author I've taken some screenshots with some interesting results. Liverpool screen shot Christchurch screen shot Nairobi screen shot The first is flying out of Liverpool (northern hemisphere)and the a/c track shows approx 350deg, the second Christchurch (southern hemisphere) the track shows approx 10deg and the third Nairobi (on the equator) the track starts at 360 deg and then veers off to approx 10 degs. In all of these shots the a/c was flying 360 on autopilot. Can I switch off the spherical/globe view to prevent this? Thanks
March 7, 20206 yr Not sure if I understand the problem... You already have the Mercator view enabled. See on top of your last screenshot. But I doubt that this is the problem here. The screenshots show nothing unexpected. What Wobbie/Robin said: Christchurch has a magnetic variance of 24° East. So 10° magnetic result in a 34° true track as seen on the map. The aircraft veering off on the last shot has nothing to do with LNM. Your autopilot keeps a magnetic heading. That means you track will change if you run into a crosswind on higher altitudes while climbing (270 at 22 knots on your shot). Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
March 7, 20206 yr Author I get your comment about the autopilot heading and crosswind. Liverpool only has a magnetic variance of just over 1deg west but the discrepancy seems a bit larger than that. But if you seem to think that all is well and things are displaying as they should due to magnetic variance then thats fine. Thanks for your answers and a big thank you for a great product. Bob
March 7, 20206 yr The map is always oriented to 0° North. So you say that you fly 0° in the Liverpool shot? It is unlikekly an error because the track is built from the simulator's position reports. This does not even use any magnetic variance in the calculation. It just plots coordinates on the map as received over time. Have a look a the progress tab in LNM. This shows true and magnetic heading as well as the track reported by the simulator. Or use the compass rose which display the various heading and course values. Alex Alex' Projects: Little Navmap
March 7, 20206 yr Author I'll use the compass rose - that looks interesting. But I can't find the 'progress tab'.
