Situation=Previous flight?

Featured Replies

First off, having spent a few hours experimenting with various settings, I'm very happy with my early impressions of FSX. Future add-ons (or existing add-ons ported over from FS9) may obviously change this opinion, but for now I'm reasonably optimistic.I must admit that I was shocked after the initial installation to find frame rates of 2-3, but I soon realised that the sim had opened in a maximised window, and that in full-screen view it was possible to shift most of the sliders to higher settings and still have a steady locked 20 fps. Perhaps this would explain at least some of the very negative results reported by a number of users.However, the main reason for this post is that in FS9 I always used the Previous Flight option as the default flight. I would like to do the same in FSX, but this isn't offered as an option. In fact, I can't find any indication that FSX automatically saves the current situation when it closes down. Has anyone found a way to set this up, or have I just missed something?Dugald(Athlon 64 3500+, 1GB, ATI 9800 Pro)

It appears that its no longer an "automatic" function. What you have to do is hit save just before you exit the sim and name it "Previous flight" or whatever. Then do that each time before you exit and let it over-write the last one. Its the only way I've found to do it.Dave

Thanks, Dave. That's what I've been doing - when I remembered. I guess it'll become second nature after a while, but it's certainly a (very minor) disappointment at present.Dugald

I suppose the developers must have had some reason for doing that, but it beats me. I could certainly have suggested a better use for the file.But if they can't offer this option, the amazing Pete Dowson can! In the registered version of FSUIPC4, the Auto Save tab offers the ability to save the flight under any name you want (for example Previous Flight) at 60-second intervals, or at whatever other interval you choose. This doesn't seem to affect the performance of FSX, and if you have Previous Flight as your default flight, the location and weather (but not the time of day) at the next FSX startup will be the same as when you last shut down the sim, always assuming that you waited at least 60 seconds before exiting.Dugald
