Time to start cannibalizing FS2004

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I just got FSX today. I'm wondering how I'm going to transition all my addons to FSX, or the ones that work at least. You see, my FS2004 folder is about 30 GB large, 19 of those being in the aircraft folder. I know that there are guages that are needed in the gauges folder as well. I dont plan on migrating any scenery over to FSX because I heard that there are a few problems getting them to run smoothly. Well, does anyone have suggestions on how to systematically migrate them to the FSX folder or should I do a massive Copy-Paste? LOL.Thanks in advance.

The key is take your time! Start with your very favorites and really think "do I really want that one" for the ones you haven't used in a very long time. Don't move stuff into FSX just to see if it works. Move what you intend to use. If you move something and don't like the result, take it back out. Take the opportunity of installing FSX to have a nice clean flight sim. Thats for Aircraft. Scenery is pretty easy to test. Just go into the add scenery menu and just point to scenery addons in your FS9. No need to move them. See how they work and move if you want. You can always just leave them where they are. I've done it with a lot of scenery including Ultimate Terrain. Again, IMHO, just take your time for best results.Dave

As Dave said, it's advisable to do one thing at a time. For example I am presently flying bone-stock FSX with the exception of Matt Fox's autogen file. I am not messing with adding anything (aircraft, scenery, other addons) to FSX right now.Once FSUIPC4 is released, I will proceed to put ASV6 into FSX...but take it slow. That way, if something blows up, you might have a better idea of what caused the problem.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

Rhett, FSUIPC4 has been released. Craig

For your own sanity do not move one FS9 aircraft to FSX untill you know it works. Or you will go into gauge #### when FSX loads if it has any FS98 gauges in use with it.. Any aircraft that has xml guages the will work fine.

Aha! As of about 3 hours ago, it has :)It's here for any of you interested:http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.htmlI'm sure it will appear here at AVSIM fily library very soon. This is great :) :) :)RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

hi. could you report on how your weather programs work with fsuipc4, please? clouds were ok for me, but the winds were all over the place, literally (like a hundred-knot windshear every few seconds). thx

What is the point of FSUIPC4? I thought Simconnect was now how addons work- is it for legacy support?

FSUIPC still has many funcutions that SimConnect does not. All you have to do is to download and then check out the readme file to see what it offers.

>hi. could you report on how your weather programs work with>fsuipc4, please? clouds were ok for me, but the winds were all>over the place, literally (like a hundred-knot windshear every>few seconds). thxI noticed only a rapid shift in direction of wind. I did not notice hundred-knot shifts. I got wind shifting radically from 20 deg around to 280 deg in a matter of a few seconds. I am still not sure if that was in the wx file or if it was an error in processing. it did it several times.More testing is in order...If this turns out to be a consistent problem then we should raise it with the ActiveSky guys on there forum.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2.5 ghz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (94.47), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian

-------------------------------------------------For your own sanity do not move one FS9 aircraft to FSX untill you know it works. Or you will go into gauge #### when FSX loads if it has any FS98 gauges in use with it.. -------------------------------------------------The best planes from FS9 to transfer would be the 737NGS, iFDG A320 series, CRJS etc (planes that are common to both sims).Once these FS9 planes are in your FSX delete the old FS9 panel.cfgs and just point the planes to the FSX panels. For example the Posky 737NG series using FSX's default 737NG panel. Works a treat. Now just need to figure out if FSX allows FS9-style wingviews :(
