October 15, 200619 yr I know the first part of this is probably going to be pretty simple for some of you, however I cannot get it straight lol. I have been hosting some ATC sessions through the gamespy option in FSX recently and everything goes fine, however when I get people in there that are disregarding ATC and all I need a way after warning them to kick them temporarily from the session. In the learning center FSX explains that you must exit to the "Briefing Room" and then kick the person and then click fly now to rejoin the session, the thing is they do not explain how to get to that screen. I have tried several attempt and have failed at all of them, usually ending my hosted session as well. Anyone know how to get to the briefing room without issues?? The second issue that I have noticed is that MS did a wonderful job on creating a Multiplayer ATC option for the Deluxe edition, however, are we missing something??? There are no labels to the runways, no taxiways or gates/parking info on the screen at all. To me this is essential to conducting a proper Ground Controller session, granted you can use charts from myplane.com but when previous freeware such as ATC Radar Screen V5 and the ASRC for Vatsim can put this on their software I am wondering how MS would forget such an essential part of the simulator, or maybe I am just being too picky lol.The last issue is fairly essential but not 100% critical to ATC. After looking over and doing some familiarization with the Multiplayer ATC option I noticed that under the session info of a pilot the client lists all of the neccessary info needed for a proper ATC controller except under the Flight Plan area, even after a pilot made a flight plan through FSX and joined the session the flight plan info was not listed on the ATC client and after assigning the pilot a squawk code it as well did not appear in the ATC client. Any ideas as to why this might be or could it be pilot error?
October 15, 200619 yr I can help you with the first issue - according to a dev the kick / ban feature was not fully completed before the game was released, so I'm guessing someone forgot to change / remove the instructions in the Learning Center. As it stands, the host CAN NOT exit to the briefing room at any point. Once the host enters the in-game world, there's no going back without taking the session down.
October 15, 200619 yr Thank you for the info, I guess that would explain why I couldn't get to the briefing room area lol. I do have one ammendment to make to my first post though, I was also wondering if FSX can connect to an FSHOST session yet or if that is a project for the dev of FSHOST...________________________________________________________________________Making FS truly "As Real As It Gets" makes a FS Simmer jump for joy!!!System: P4 3.4 Ghz HT MSI MS-6728 865PE BFG 6800GT OC 2gb Corsair DDR pc3200XMS ram 3 sata 300 200GB hdd's SB Audigy 2Zs Platinum Pro Zalman passive rad Liq cooling Saitek X-52 FCS
October 20, 200619 yr I also thought of a few other things that seem to be missing:1 - Ability to force new players to join/spawn in a parking area. I'm constantly seeing people joining the game and they'll spawn on the active runway, usually while someone is just about to touch down. Being able to force people to spawn in a parking area would eliminate this problem. I know that you can give them the option to spawn at the airport of their choice and have them manually select to spawn in parking, but really, how many people actually take the time to do that?2 - Ability to change host settings without having the session be lost. It would be nice if you could change settings like time of day or the weather. Even being able to change the voice communication settings would be nice, if you start a host with 'always activated for all players' at the start of a session, it would be nice to be able to change it to 'only activated using aircraft radios' as the server fills up and you get more than one ATC operator.3 - While on the topic of radios, it would be nice if you could force connecting aircraft to have their radios tuned to the frequency of the host's choice. I've tried hosting sessions where I could have it set up with one controller on the ground frequency while I was on the tower frequency. Even though I specified in the 'comments' and spammed it in the chat and over the voice communications using [shift]+[Caps Lock] nobody bothered tuning to the required frequencies and just flew around doing whatever they wanted.4 - Ability for a host to change their aircraft/role without losing the session. Sometimes I've started a session as a pilot, then find a bunch of people on my connection and have wanted to switch over to ATC or even just switch to a different aircraft. However, you can't, unless you cancel out of the session and relaunch.I understand that these all might seem a bit picky, but really it's not something that would really be all that difficult for Microsoft to have set up, and hopefully it's something that will be addressed in a future patch. Wishful thinking, I know. :-)
October 20, 200619 yr Regarding question 1 about spawning into parking area....i posted about this a week ago but it didnt get any attention...but i noticed that you cant spawn into a parking area at all...even if you choose a parking spot to spawn it itll still place you on a runway whether you like it or not...its a BUG. Dunno if the clients have this trouble but im sure the hosts do.Doesnt happen in single player...only a problem when hosting multi player.Dave Dave Kalin Excel Classes Computer Lessons
October 20, 200619 yr I actually have found that you can spawn in parking (most of the time) IF you choose to spawn at an airport of your choice, then change your starting position from 'Active Runway' to one of the parking locations. This is what I'll do when I enter a multiplayer session. That being said, there have been times where I have selected a parking location and once loaded find myself sitting on the active runway. So it looks like the option for the 'client' to spawn elsewhere IS available, however it looks like it doesn't always work. The other problem is, a lot of people don't bother changing their starting position so that's why people are constantly popping up on the active, and that's something that the 'host' should have the option to control. One other problem I thought of was with the multiplayer voice communication system. I've noticed that some people are so quiet that you can't even hear them over the noise of the engine, while other people are so loud that they just about blow out your speakers. I'm not sure how Microsoft could fix that since it's dependant on too many variables (client side settings, their physical mic, how close they are to the mic, etc.). But one thing that would be nice is the ability to adjust your own sound levels in game, without having to do it through the control panel in Windows.
October 21, 200619 yr I think the OP was asking if there was an option to FORCE people to not spawn on the active.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
October 21, 200619 yr I'm wondering, as an interim solution, if an addon could use simmconnect to create separate session from the same FS, using that as the Host, so that the user can connect as a user and have all the features available to a user, while at the same time giving that person hosting capabilities, too in a separate window.I have no idea how hosting works, but I think you get the idea, I wonder if a single user can spawn two sessions from a single FS, one as host, the other as a user.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
October 21, 200619 yr Well I tried launching two incarnations of FSX at the same time, but I get a window popping up saying that FSX is already running. I even tried using 'run as...' and running it as a different user. So unfortunately that doesn't seem to work.
October 21, 200619 yr re 1: i am able to spawn in a parking area maybe once in ten sessions. usually the host disables this option and only allows to spawn "near host's aircraft" which invariably puts me on the active runway. sorry, but the player has no chance to change this if the host sets it up this wayoops, just read further down that i'm not the only one to have noticed that:-)
October 21, 200619 yr Well, I didn't think that would work, you'd need two licences for that, plus a pretty fast machine with 8 GB of memory or something on a duo or quad core. But I was hoping perhaps a second connection to Gamespy could be created. But I'm thinking that even this is not possible.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
