October 17, 200619 yr Seems like calling any future update "vaporware" might be a bit harsh, given that the initial release date for FSX is tomorrow! It might be sporting to at least give MS a chance to prove what they're saying first before essentially accusing them of lying. And by the way, do you think they wouldn't have taken heat for postponing the FSX release until Vista/DX10 was available. Of course they would have. I wouldn't trade places with the Aces at release time, no matter when it is.
October 17, 200619 yr <>Oh, c'mon Bill--it's totally fun! Seriously, you know how it goes with each release. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Anyway, good to see you posting around these parts. ;)
October 17, 200619 yr Vista alone will do nothing for your FPS. DX10 might if they also change the single threaded nature of fsx. DX10 by itself is not a magic fps increaser, it's mostly a new shader structure. As it stands now FSX seems to be mostly cpu limited. Try changing the resolution to 800*600 with the sliders at max and a good graphics card. You will Not get a FPS increase. Since FSX is cpu limited, the only way to get more performance is to make fsx use multiple cores instead of one. As it is now fsx uses only 50% of dual core machines. Next year when quad cores will be introduced, guess what : Fsx will only use 25% of your pc power, and fps will not increase at all!MS claiming that fsx pushes the current hardware so much that you will have to wait for 2 years to catch up, is the biggest game marketing lie ever. FSX runs slow because it is not using your hardware to its fullest. The only way to speed up FSX is a rewrite of the engine to make use of mulitple core machines. Only then will you see a substancial fps increase. DX10 will make the graphics prettier and increase the fps somewhat, Vista on the other hand will decrease FPS somewhat because it has more overhead than XP.
October 17, 200619 yr Hi all, another bad FSX experience here I'm afraid, luckily tried out a friends copy to trial it before stumping up
October 17, 200619 yr Author perhaps an even bigger question is will "my" vista license be yanked after I rebuild my computer a few times. Xp is working pretty well for me.Bob
