A Google Earth tracking program is already available. The cardinal sin is to include a map, but not a scale. An idiotic error. You don't even get a `distance to run` from your present location when you hover over a mapped feature.It's all designed to drive you to the `direct to` function on the GPS.Allcott

Reality XP Garmin.When I bought the Dream Fleet Baron, that was the last time I ever had to look "outside" of the plane to know where I was. (please make this FSX compatable...)Turn on the roads, city/towns and rivers to 35mi. You would see the road on the map, look out and see the road below. Range out on the map to see where it goes, and deside if you want to play Cannonball Run and land that cessna on mainstreet to pick up a sixpack.As the best thing about this hobby remains that no matter what your personal preferences or "needs" are, someone somewhere with more ability than you or me - has made a freeware/paywear contibution to address exactly what you were looking for.Happy Flying.Garett

But isn't there already a Garmin with some of the planes in FSX...the ones identified as being the 'glass cockpit' variant??Should I be making myself familiar with this piece of kit then?Sorry, it might seem as if I've never flown a virtual plane in my life. That couldn't be further from the truth actually, but I've up until now steared clear of getting too technical with the sim. I just pick a plane, pick an airport, pick some weather and then go out and have a look around. Flight plans aren't really on my agenda, but if it will help give me what I want then I'm willing to start learning.So maybe FSX HAS got the ability after all? Hmmm...Thanks Garett

Ok, here's the deal on the Glass Cockpit Garmin 1000 planes...In REAL life, the Garmin will show place names etc, but the one in FSX doesn't. Sure, it gives you all of the 'proper' sim info...but it doesn't give you straight forward place names! It's more basic than its real life counterpart, which is explained in the Learning Centre. I can also report that Glass Cockpit variants are more frame-hungry than the planes with good old analogue dials.PityI'm going to checo out the Google map thingy later and report my findings.Until then, I shall make up my own names for places I fly over. Like Slowsville, Framedrop Town and Someonesortoutthelandclasssoon...which is near British Columbia ;o)Davey

If you run Google Earth on the same computer that is running FSX, you may notice a performance drop because GE consumes a lot of resources itself. MyFSGoogleEarth itself should not cause a performance drop however since it is a very lightweight program.
