October 16, 200619 yr I picked up FSX on Friday, and after a lot of frustration initially, it appears I've not got it running nicely on my mid range laptop.I applied pretty much all the tweaks mentioned here:http://www.fox-fam.com/wordpress/?page_id=41And experimented with different settings until I was happy with the results.I just set up a take off at dusk from Manston (EGMH) using the Maule and real weather. I flew VFR across the English Channel and followed the Belgian coast along to a rather murky twilight approach to Ostend (EBOS). Just out of curiosity I set the frame rate lock to unlimited and left the frame rate counter running for the duration of the flight. I was getting 20-30 FPS all the way :) The only problem I had was a sudden dip to 4 FPS after I had landed and was taxiing in - then I noticed my NOD32 antivirus had decided to run an automatic update in the background, hence the sudden drop.So after initially thinking I would return FSX, I am now very happy with it. Congratulations to everyone at ACES and of course thanks to all the people in the community who have come up with the tweaks that have made FSX run pretty well on my system.BTW, has anyone noticed when flying the Maule from the VC, the movement of the starboard aileron is reversed? October 16, 200619 yr Just wondering what exactly changed your mind? Was it just performance or other factors as well?Anyway, looks like patience is paying off for some who have it, still waiting for my copy so I hope I can get that type of performance. What are your system specs?Ian.
October 16, 200619 yr Author For the most part it was the performance. After applying the various tweaks I get a pretty impressive performance improvement when compared to FSX straight out of the box. Also, it does look as though FSX is smoother overall than FS9. FS9 for me always had some very annoying stutters, but so far I haven't noticed any in FSX.Patience, a bit of research and experimenting with different settings is what is needed I think. Nick
October 16, 200619 yr Hi there Engine Room,How long did it take you to implement all of the afforementioned modifications??RegardsJetSet843D
October 16, 200619 yr Author Not long at all. Most of them are simply replacing existing textures with smaller resized ones that are easier on your graphics card. The resized terrain textures took the longest, primarily because there are so many. I just downloaded the files that make the conversion, and left them going overnight. Woke up in the morning and all was well :)I've just moved David Maltby's BAC 1-11 into FSX, it works, but there are a few glitches. I just did a quick flight from Manston to Newcastle at night, and am happy to report that nighttime in FSX is actually *dark*, not the perpetual twilight we had in FS9 :) Nick
October 16, 200619 yr I'm running demo2 on laptop, took me... probably half hour to 40 min to do all the tweaks...EngineRoom: What's your lappy specs??
October 16, 200619 yr Author I'm running FSX on this laptop:http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/7092.htmHowever, I'm planning on upgrading to one of these next month:http://www.rockdirect.co.uk/viewNotebook.p...EME%20CTX%20PRO Nick
