October 17, 200619 yr Author The airport runways/taxi texture pack was corrupt, so didn't get to try it (BTW I live in the county south of CYEG, that means dial up...) so I'm not going to try redownloading it again for an hour. The Building texture replacement pack did not replace the main textures I am looking to change.I want to resize all the 1366K and 688K dds files for (everything but the ground & planes), (I not gonna screw with the clouds cause I know I'm going to replace them with AV6/GE later anyways) which are:Most of the BLD_Northamerica_North (and other places)Most of the BLD**.dds filesMost of the vehicles, (cars/trucks/support and ships & boats are huge) Andre (the parks man?) outfit is 688K alone. The Hangers, Airport (lg/sm/med) and terminal textures.Cranes, tanks and other port harbor crap.Scraper sides & dedicated location textures (Propriatary Seattle / Vegas stuff.) Get the idea.If I can knock down all these "fancy icing textures", it should free up cpu cycles and valuable video/main ram for more important stuff such as ground textures, mesh, clouds, weather, panels, traffic etc. - Not to mention actual flight.I like the idea of boats & cars running around, but at anything over 500ft - who cares if your can read goodyear on the tire?As real as it gets, means different things to each person. The above is mine, as I want a flight sim that is for tailored for flying and all that goes with it. I don't need Half Life 2 with planes in it. Thats the beauty of the MSFS product, don't like it - change it to your preference.Regards'Garett
October 17, 200619 yr Nothing to add except it's not unique to any one user. I think if enough people e-mail Microsoft re: this problem we may get their attention and hopefully a fix. I know there is an e-mail address somewhere here in the forum for that express purpose. Found it...here is the original post. It just struck me that despite all the heat being generated on this forum the [email protected] inbox is almost empty. That seems strange since it's one of the best and most reliable ways to get feedback to the whole FS team, not just those of us who read the forum messages. *Plus* it has the advantage of accepting attachments so one could, if one was so inclined, attached the output from DXDIAG.EXE so we'd know *exactly* what your system spec was as well as your slider settings (by saving them to a separate .CFG file). Perhaps it's just because so few people have the retail version yet. Just a thought. Craig
October 17, 200619 yr How can you say "no no no"? I can tell you, that this is not the case on my setup. As the original poster said:With ALL mentioned turned off, you get a very noticable frame rate reduction when :A: looking in the direction downtown.B: looking at the terminal. How can I say it? Because I've been flying FSX Deluxe for a week and half most of the time started at KSEA and playing around with the settings incessantly. How do you or he know that in looking at the buildings he is not as well looking at airport vehicles, clouds in the distance, terrain, autogen, etc. It is not the case because he doesn't see the autogen that indeed the autogen in that direction is not effecting his fps. As I stated, it is more than one thing. It is a combination of factors and settings which will conspire to lower the fps.But lets deal with those nice airport textures or building textures for a moment. Want to dilute them? Want to have blocky and blurred textures because the original may impact a frame or two? Is this where you want FSX to go? Why buy FSX then if your going to replace all what makes FSX what it is?Having said that, I wonder if the original poster has KSEA from Fly Tampa. Try porting that over because there you get a beautiful airport and you can test the fps as well.
