May 1, 20206 yr The mighty Tonka!! The IDS was a little beast of a strike aeroplane. I'll miss her: I used to be a weight engineer at BAe Warton in the early 90s. I helped to prepare loadsheets back when our RAF boys (don't think there were any female pilots at the time) were taking them into harm's way in both Gulf conflicts. I was part of the team who weighed the last Tornado ADV produced.. (I suppose the UK had to have something to fill the gap between Phantom and Typhoon.. ). I miss the rib-shaking crackle of the RB199s in full reheat. We used to judge how good a takeoff was by how many car alarms were set off in the car park (and Warton village no doubt ). That display by the Italian Tornado at about 14 minutes.. beautiful!! If anyone wants to see an example of aero-braking on landing then they should watch that. A phenomenal wheelie after the (second) touchdown.
