October 18, 200619 yr Finally, below is one shot with all sliders to the righthttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158951.jpg
October 18, 200619 yr where is the "vs FS9" part of this thread? Got a screenie of that area in FS9 with all maxed? nice shot btw :)
October 18, 200619 yr Thanks-this was just a shot to show off what FSX can do. I sort of do not want to mess with my FS9 settings as I finally have it where I want it after years of tweaking.
October 18, 200619 yr I can't say I like the water... Or better said: I don't like it at all! It's cool when you are ON the water and see the reflections, but from higher up in the sky it looks weird. You see far too much detail! Like in the middle of your picture: you see horizontal waves which is absolutely ridiculous! It looks like a tsunami! It seems like someone took a picture of the sea (from pretty close by) and pasted it into this picture. From such a hight you shouldn't see details like this. Really awfull. (It's the only really awfull thing about FS X though...). I use water at 1.0 high (or whatever it is called) BTW also due to fps, I have to say.I already said in another topic that it ruins the realism: it's as if you are flying above a miniature-train-set (the kind of things some guys build at their attic) and thrown a bucket of water in a hole that's supposed to be a lake or river: it's completely out of proportion. It also should blend a lot more into the surroundings.Hopefully Shader 4.0 in DX10 will give is more realistic water (form a disctance).
October 18, 200619 yr Did you try moving the effects sliders to the left? That may have an effect on the "waves."
October 18, 200619 yr Water looks much better at 2 for me at altitude compared to 1, but of course there is the performance trade-off. I am very happy with the water myself, at least compared to FS2004. Time of day and weather also make a big difference.Tony
October 18, 200619 yr Well, the problem is that fsx only features ONE water effect for ALL water surfaces. The water effect looks quite good on the ocean, but bad on lakes and even worse on rivers. The effect simulates quite big ocean waves rolling in one direction which look pretty aweful on any other surface than the ocean itself. To sum it up, the effect kills realism for inland water bodies such as lakes and rivers (the smaller the lakes the worse).I cannot understand why they didn't at least include 3 different kind of animations for the ocean, lakes and rivers.cheers, CGPS: One artistic shot showing fsx under directx 10 sports even much better looking water but it is totally unrealistic for a lake oder normal calm conditions! See for yourself:FSX:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158956.jpgRealworld:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/158958.jpg
October 18, 200619 yr I FULLY agree. They really should have added different inland waters! You said exactly what I meant to say. ;) Indeed, the artists impression of DX10 has the same overdone effect. You can see waves on the other side of the lake which you really should not be able to see! The real picture you've added makes this perfectly clear. I quit liked the artists impression when I first saw it, but after looking at it some longer, and specially compared to that real picture, it's also quit awfull. (The artists impression is a bad amateuristic Photoshop job btw...)I really hope the devs will work on the water a little bit more before the DX10 patch will be released!
October 18, 200619 yr Nice pictures...have you ever seen a high alpine lake in stormy weather with the wind howling though the passes? It looks just like the top pic.The bottom pic is in nice weather...very different conditions......
October 18, 200619 yr Seeing as the original title was FS9+Addons vs. FSX etc...Unedited screenshots from.............................which sim?Edit:Ummm sorry there shold be 2 screenshots here....what's happened to them????http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159007.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/159008.jpgo.k. finally managed it, but I don't like having to disable my Internet security to post screenshots, anyone else had this problem?Ciao, il fanciullo
