Long time flight sim enthusiast - First time post 

 

I recently bought the real sim GNS530 from real sim gear and installed Reality XP.  

When I run the add on tool in the program I am unable to save the new panel file that is created. 

" You need permission to perform this action"  is the error that comes up when I try and save it.  

Background info- 

Windows 10/64

FSX SE addition 

Carenado 337 - it comes with a 530 installed in it. 

So far I have tried to change the panel folder permissions , but that did not resolve the issue. 

Any guidance would be appreciated.  I understand these are all a little different.

Hi,

Most likely the path to the aircraft folder has access rights preventing your user account, under which FSX-SE is running, from 'writing' to the panel.cfg file.

Now, when this popup message shows up, do you have any button/choice like 'ok' or 'grant permission' (ala UAC control)?

If so, then just click it. If not, then you have to find out what access rights are on the aircraft folder.

 

No button options, I will see what I can find for the whole aircraft folder vs the panel folder access rights.  thanks for the reply. 

Went and changed it at the aircraft level and still end up with the same result. I'll keep digging. 

Have you check panel.cfg file is not just read-only then?

The "Panel"  folder has a check box for read only.(Only applies to files in folder)  I have unchecked it , hit apply, it asks to apply it to all files , hit yes.  When you check the permissions again it is read only.   The panel.cfg file is not read only, but the folder it is contained in "Panel" is.  Am I missing an opportunity to run as admin?

I tried using the program in a non Carenado product Aero Commander and it worked perfectly !   I am sure with some patience and creativity we can make it work in the 337 

I have exactly the same problem ("You need permission to perform this action") with the Albabeo PA32.  Any help much appreciated.

This is peculiar: do you mean you uncheck "read only", let Windows do it stuff, then check again and it is back?

What is the full path to the 337 panel.cfg file?

@David_Houston Hi, I'd suggest you read this discussion and answer to the same questions to get started.

I have checked that the panel.cfg file is not read only. the path to the panel cfg file is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\DLC\896741\SimObjects\Airplanes\Alabeo PA32_Saratoga_II_TC\panel

Can you post the content of the RXP log files? (see user's manual for file/path)

However the RXP GTN has got you covered. Just follow the suggestion found in the log file:

The application is preventing any changes to this panel.cfg file and it must be manually copied instead.

In other words:
