PMDG 747 in FSX

Featured Replies

Just in case you were curious, here is a screengrab of the PMDG B747 in FSX. I took it out over the sea so you'd know that it really was in FSX.Unfortunately, the virtual cockpit doesn't appear at all, nor do the instruments on the 2D panel and nothing appeared to work of the switches I could see on the panel. The external model lights were working mostly but none of the control surfaces animated, in fact the ailerons were drooped like flaps, the gear did retract and animated while doing so, but the nosewheel did not appear to steer, in fact it loaded turned 90 degrees over and never moved from that position until I retracted the gear.Notice that the wings are not flexing either. I got no audio warnings when I overbanked it, but the speed brakes did deploy when I overspeeded it in a dive, so I presume that it's got a lot of what it takes to work in FSX.I guess if you want to try this, you could perhaps put the default 2D B747 panel in the PMDG folder and maybe you'd get a 2D panel, but I haven't tried that.Anyway, the fact that it loads bodes well for a patch to get it into FSX properly, the PMDG 737 on the other hand does actually allow you to install it to FSX, but fails to load because of gauge issues, although perhaps transferring the relevant gauges from an FS9 install might work, not tried this either.Incidentally, the PMDG 747 returned the same frame rates as most other stuff I've flown from that same airport where I took off (EGCC Manchester UK) and it was much the same as other aircraft as I took it out over the coast near Liverpool, although i can't say that this will remain the case, as I don't know how much of the notoriously complex systems it models were being run in the background.

The PMDG 747/737 do not work in FSX. No amount of tweaking will fix the issues but I can say that PMDG have been working on fixing it for a few months and have a ways to go still. For more information please visit the PMDG forum for progress reports etc.Best,Randy J. Smith<<>>

Yup, it was more out of curiousity that I tried them in FSX than a genuine expectation that they would work in any usable way. The only reason I posted it, is that I was just quite surprised to see the thing actually not crash to desktop when I loaded up a flight with the 747!

PLEASE, don't take it personally, but I really can't resist this time..:-)I must have read 100.000+ posts over the last 8 years on flightsim forums, but I have NEVER seen anyone spending so many words and write with so much enthousiasm and detail about all things that are NOT working, when trying out an FS-addon of which he expects/knows NOT to work on a new FS-version.And your remark that you were "quite surprised" that it didn't crash FSX upon loading, really made me fall of my chair laughing...You must really have a lot of spare time on your hands.I can't wait to read the follow-up on your testresults .....:-)Again, sorry if I offended you with this reply (that was not my intention), but I truely hope that you can see the humor in it yourself.Regards, Rob Barendregt
