Am I doing something wrong?

Featured Replies

I have done all of the tweek to FPX that everyone is posting and my frames dropped down from being locked at 20fps to a constant 3 fps. I uninstalled FSX and did a clean install. My frames are backed to being locked at a steady 20fps, but with autogen at its lowest level they drop down to 8fps. I have done all of the autogen tweeks with no luck. My system specs are a Dell XPS P4 3.2GHz, 1Gig of memory,Radeon 9800XT, and Windows XP Sp2. Is my system just not enough to handle autogen even with the tweeks or does it sound like something is wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you guys might be able to give me. Oh yeah I am able to pretty much run everything maxed out and get around 17fps wich looks very smooth. Its just the autogen that is killing me.

I had the same thing happen with one of the tweeks that was posted, the one where you add a line to your cfg file to speed up judders in turns, not that I was getting any judders, but I thought I'd give it a shot to see what it did. What it did was drop my frame rate to almost what looked like a total lock up, the frame rate was so low. Needless to say I changed the config file back, since I only tried that one out of curiousity.Guess maybe it doesn't work for everyone, but then again it was a case of me trying to fix something that wasn't broken, as I can live with the frame rates I'm getting, which are usually about 25, dropping to 17 or so when things get busy ;-)

Thanks for the heads up. I deleted my FSX cnfg and let the sim build a new one on startup. It must have been something I added while doing tweeks. Now my fps are up to 28fps constant and the only tweek to my config is the "FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33"

I wish everyone would simply flush their fs9.cfg or fsx.cfg down the bitbucket before resorting to a complete reinstall......simply because most folks don't realize that a reinstall won't write a "new" .cfg file, and their problem is still the fubared .cfg! ;)I first installed FS9 the day it was released, and have to this day NEVER had to "re-install" it. If I have a problem, I blow out the old fs9.cfg file and let the sim build a fresh version. :-wave
