July 15, 20205 yr Thanks, Daedalus, for this post about Las Vegas! Great capture of the lightning over the Vegas skyline...!! (And, while things continue to be grim,... the posts, here, (two, today, on Las Vegas), for a few moments, at least, take one's mind off the worries a bit...!!) Anyway, please bear with me, as I tell you an incidence, I'm now reminded of, from my only visit to Las Vegas, that you may find interesting,...(as always...it occurred many moons ago)... We flew in the A320 direct to KLAS...Just when our plane was about to start the descent into KLAS, the Pilots announced that the stewardesses will be going around distributing small pieces of paper with a quiz for the passengers, the winner (i.e. whoever comes closest to the correct answer) would get two tickets (a bit pricey at that time) to the Blue Man Group Show in Vegas (plus, maybe something else, I forget). The question, basically, was to predict the "current" weight of the Airbus A320. If recall correctly, the Pilots, over the PA system, gave us the Zero Fuel Weight, Number of passengers, and Fuel on Board etc. (some such details)...And, all, i think, I did was to multiply, on the calculator of my cell-phone, (170 or 180) lbs by the number of passengers announced, and added it to ZFW and Fuel. Most of the passengers were anxious to get out on arrival, and probably never even tried the challenge...though some certainly did. The stewardesses dutifully collected our answers (with our seat identifiers on them) and delivered them to the cockpit... After touchdown, as we approached the GATE, one of the Pilots announced that, "Whoever is sitting in Seat 23A (making up a number, here, but it was yours truly...🙂...) is the winner, with the closest answer! He/she can collect the reward from the Stewardess on the way out of the plane...". A bit of subdued clapping followed the announcement, as I recall, on board... Oh well...but that is not the end of this recollection. In the course of the (actual and free) Blue Man Group Show, one of the performers (literally) climbed over the seated crowd, leveraging on the chair-tops (people's shoulders and such...whatever else was available for support) all the way towards my side of the crowd, spattering a few of us with some kind of Blue paint. Although the stunt was quite unexpected, I learned, later, that was likely part of their regular routine...(and, the paint, as I also discovered later, was (thankfully) washable...🙂...) Distant memories...that feel more distant now....! Anyway, thanks, Daedalus...!!
