Cannot connect to x-plane 11.41

Featured Replies

Hi, just installed Little Navmap but I can't seem to connect to my x-plane 11.41 system.

I have checked the Little Xpconnect plugin is correctly installed in the plugin folder but LNM doesn't seem to be doing anything, have I missed something? For example, does x-plane 11 have to be running.

I also don't see an option to check that LNM is trying to connect to the right X-plane 11 folder (I have a backup folder on the same PC)

LNM just shows Connecting XP... but everything else has no information displayed.

Thanks

Hi,

if suppose you run LNM and the simulator on the same computer. Remote/network is a diffent story (see pinned post).
Xpconnect should show up in the X-Plane plugin manager is installed properly. Xpconnect does not create any menu items in X-Plane.

You probably used the connection dialog (LNM main menu -> Tools -> Flight Simulator Connection) to connect to the simulator.

LNM tries to connect until the simulator is started. Then you will see the indication "Connected" in the status bar.
More information is only shown if you "sit in the cockpit". Only then - when the aircraft is loaded - does LNM receive information which is shown in the progress tab.

The connection is independent of the installed simulator. It is just looking for a running process/Xpconnect plugin. No matter where this is installed.

You can select the simulator manually when loading the scenery library.

Thanks Alex, and yes LNM and x-plane are on the same computer and yes I used the Tools option to direct LNM to x-plane.

I will have to have another look when I get the chance. I would like to increase the size of the map as clicking on departure and arrival seems the preferred method for creating a flight plan but it's difficult to do this with the default map size.

I was also assuming, probably wrongly that the various side panels Aircraft etc. would automatically populate when connected to x-plane but again this appears to be a wrong assumption.

I have read quickly through the manual but there is a lot to take in.

I'm sure any problems are down to my lack of understanding.

There are many other ways to create a flight plan. You can use "Flight Plan" -> "Create Flight plan from route description" and just enter the airport ICAO idents.
You can also use the airport search function and right click on the result table and select an airport as destination or departure.
Ctrl+Alt+Left Click and Shift+Alt+Left Click into the map add or append airports or navaids to a flight plan.

The progress tab in the simulator aircraft dock window / side panel populates automatically if the aircraft is loaded in the simulator.

Aircraft performance: This is optional. You can use the default "New Aircraft perf ..." and ignore the warnings, download performance files from here or create one for your own aircraft.

Have a look at the tutorials that are linked in the help menu. These should give a good start.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I understand now. However, got another question.

I got the message about  downloading the offline Globe elevation data and I did that and have extracted into the default folder all10 but I'm not clear where to place it. I don't have  a simple Globe directory and I have searched for  a10g in x-plane but no luck.

Can you expliain where to place the files please??

You can put the file whereever you like. I recommend something like ".../Documents/Little Navmap/GLOBE".
After extracting go to main menu "Tools" -> "Options" and in the options dialog to page "Cache and Files". Click "Select GLOBE Directory" and choose the folder where you put the files. LNM will show a warning message if you selected the wrong folder.

Hi again, have to confess that I am struggling with LNM,.

I want to create a test flight plan offline from EGLC to EDAP but I'm not getting anywhere. At my age, 80, things take longer to sink in and LNM has a lot of options etc.

Could you help me out by giving me a simple step by step process for creating the flight plan. Once I see how it works I will be OK.

Currently I have LNM set to OFFLINE

When I put EGLC in the Search panel on the right nothing shows in the info panel below. The same applies if I use the EGHJ in the tutorial.

Thanks

Hi,

the Offline mode only applies to the map download. I'd not use LNM in this mode except you have no internet or if you use one of the offline map themes.

Did you load the scenery library? See menu "Scenery Library" -> "Load Scenery Library"? You probably omitted this step if you cannot see airports on the map.
Also check if "Scenery Library" -> "Navigraph" -> "Use Navigraph for Navaids and Procedures is set". This is normally default.

Regarding the search: There are probably other search options set which result in nothing found. Right click into the (empty result table) and select "Reset Search" or click the button icon_clear.png. This clears all search filters which might affect the search. Then try again EGHJ in the field "ICAO Code".

The easiest way to build a flight plan is to scroll and zoom into the map to the airport. Then right-click onto the airport symbol and select "Set ... as departure" or "Set ... as destination".
Do the same for intermediate waypoints and use "Add ... to flight plan" or "Append ... to flight plan".

If you think that settings in LNM are messed up you can reset all back to default: Menu -> Tools -> "Reset all settings and restart",

Hi, simple when you know how (I put it down to my age).

Scenery loaded and playing about creating flight plans, nothing too complicated at this stage.

Thanks for the help.

Hi, finally getting to grips with LNM. Quick question, is it possible to set the flight height for the individual legs when creating a flight plan.

Got interesting result, well for me, when I tried to create a plan to EDAP with x-plane rejecting it as not compatible with the aircraft I was using for the plan, due to insufficient runway length I think. I was using a Cirrus SF50 jet. Is this due to the aircraft profile I used???

Sorry, no.

X-Plane rejects a plan if the departure or destination are too short for the selected aircraft. This is purely a X-Plane thing. You can change the minimum required runway in PlaneMaker.

The LNM aircraft performance allows to enter a minium runway but this only for reference/display.
