Starting Research for New FS Build

Featured Replies

My original  P3D build was a decent setup back then and I always said I was going to upgrade it a few years in but never did.  Now with the new FS coming out I want to get a good system (maybe not top of the line but up there).  I'm trying to follow the sales to see if I can save a few bucks so I'm wondering what I should be looking for.

Is the i9 1090k the best CPU available right now for FS?  Looks like the 1070k is good as well for a lot less money.

I'll be waiting for the 3000 series GPU to come out as it appears performance is solid pending pricing

RAM is there anything specific I should be looking for?  Read on another post that anything above 3200 is good and I was going for 32GB

Asus Z490 looks to be the solid choice.  Anything cheaper that supports the 10th gen CPUs that is close enough?

750W should be enough for a PSU

Have a 250GB SSD right now but I'm starting to run low so I'll probably upgrade that to something higher.  Samsung 500GB is only $78 on Amazon right now so I may get that

Noctua NH-U12S cooler

I think that's the important stuff.  Any thoughts?

The 10900K is proving to be an awesome CPU.  That said, I don't think you can take it to its full potential with a NH-U12S...at 5+ GHz it's gonna be dissipating something in the 250W range.  10700K is two less cores, so likely to be a better match for the best air coolers.  I think it's thermally similar to the 9900K.  My portable LAN box rig uses a 9900K and pretty much saturates a dual-fan NH-D15 running 8 cores (HT Off) at 5 GHz.

With the CPU at 250W and a 3080 supposedly hitting in the mid 300W ranges, I'd be looking more at 850-900W PSUs with a 10900K.  The price difference is relatively small.

RAM--"anything above 3200 is good"--no, not really.  You have to consider CAS latency as well as frequency.  Lots already written about that topic in this forum.

Right on thanks for the advice. Looks like I have some more research to do.
