Poor man's VR as temporary solution for FS2020

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone has taken notice of this or perhaps already knew ?

In this excellent video mr. Belgeode explains how to use a VR headset to use with Tracker software (opensource) and create a curved big screen using Virtual Desktop. Since Laminar research decided that my GTX780 isn't good enough for x-plane VR (an incomprehensable decision, but that's another subject) i gave this a try and it works quite well with my Rift CV1. So this may be something to use until your headset will be supported for real VR.

i tryed it yesterday and yes it works, but i am not a fan of a 360 2D wrapped around you, it just dont feel like real VR absolutely not,

BUT i used my Headset just as the tracker, i put it on like a hat, and you look on your standard Monitor, it works like TrackIR,

and that was not bad 😁

No. indeed it does not. it shows how important the stereoscopic view in VR is so you get that depth perception.

But with a little tweaking i can just about get the senstation of using an enourmous projection screen, like in a cinema. Add a little bit of curve to that and I can trackIR in my Rift CV1. Choosing a black background around the screen and you're really 'drawn in'. Much better than using my tiny little 24 inch monitor.

For me, this is a nice way to use FS2020 until VR is there.

of course its a nice way to tinker around (i did it), i think we will the same effect with the HMD but in glorry 3D once VR enter MSFS.

What i discovered again is i used TrackIR before 2012 and TrackIR is still great for flying, i have a 42" monitor and today i would preffer TrackIR for flying on a 2D monitor.

....but everything changed end of 2012 when i got my first VR headset, i even sold my TrackIR 😅
