October 25, 200619 yr This's cruel to those who have been waiting to see it in msfs since years ago.Now the fancy shaders are there for a long time, so why don't they kindly do it in the same way as someone else had done? Recall the heat blur on/off setting for those jet fighters in Lock On.In the mean time we did have some nice guys elaborated on including shimmering to exhaust effects, and we tired in attaching these shhimmering smokes one by one to the airplanes. After all, particles are particles, good enough for smoke but hard to simulate thermal deflections on the way lights travel. The "thermal" scenery setting in FSX means something else - draw the air flows for gliders.
October 25, 200619 yr I believe that ACES explored the possibilities of having heat blur, but found that it produced too much of a performance hit. I believe the same holds true for cloud shadows as well. Perhaps hardware will allow such for FS 11, but who knows what the future holds!Best,Owen *****<br>J. October 25, 200619 yr I agree, but you have to make a trade-off somewhere. FSX is far more detailed than LOMAC and heat blur would've made a pretty big hit on the performance of the sim. Also, the sim is much more complex and detailed and it's possible that heat blur was not a priority. They would've had to sacrifice something else if they wished to include it, such as light bloom or reflective water. imo I'm glad they didn't remove any feature for the sake of heat blur.Oh, and you can't deny the self-shadowing in FSX is light years ahead of the self-shadowing in LOMAC!James
