MFS2020 xbox version first then download version?

Featured Replies

Just wondering as I have taken the x-box $1 subscription trial option whether after a successful trial, when I go for the download version will I have to reinstall and more importantly will any settings, log book and other options be saved or lost.

Has anyone got an answer to this? I’m guessing it will be a total fresh install, in which case I will try and find the files where this data is stored and try and save it first.

Any thoughts?

Don't think it will need a reinstall.

I also installed as a (EUR) 1 game pass subscriber. The MS store app has downloaded and installed a bunch of "sub items" (xbox game services, Microsoft Flight Simulator).

The very last item was "Digital Ownership" (with same icon as Microsoft Flight Simulator). It was actually flagged as "in error" in downloads until Microsoft Flight Simulator was installed.

Looks like (to me) that game pass subscription just bring its own Digital Ownership thing.

My guess is that when you will eventually "buy" the product only the Digital Ownership will somehow "change". And maybe additional items will be downloaded and installed (for "above standard" versions), either in the MS store app on in the sim content manager

But that's just a guess...

Thanks Marco, I would hope this is the way it will work and be very happy if it is.

If you're talking about the beta then yes , everything will be reset on Monday. Key binding's, stats, etc.

No I haven’t got beta, I’m referring to a new public release install (post 18th Aug) via xbox subscription followed by a subsequent purchase and install of a download version.

It's a good question though, because I would be in the same situation. But it would also be useful to know what files, if any, can be saved/backed-up in case a user wants or needs to re-install the sim, whether on the original PC or move it to a new one. It may be that all relevant saves etc are stored on MS servers, and simply logging in to your MS account would reconnect them to a re-installed sim, but that wouldn't work if you only flew off-line or if MS eventually stopped supporting MSFS (even if that is more than 10 years away).

Since I'll have two and half months of evaluation time on Xbo Game Pass before having to commit to actually buying it, I could have a fair bit of data saved by then.

So, if you are on gamepass trial and then decide to buy it from Microsoft store then no, you won't have to re-install.

I assume you would have to re-install if you buy it from steam after trying out on Gamepass.

I was thinking the same thing. And as that's what I'd be most likely to do, it certainly is something to think about (archiving of save data).
